Well, this is an interesting update...

My computer just restarted itself without asking me or even telling me it was going to and when it came back up I saw it had updated. When it finally came back up I took a peek at what had been installed and it said:

Quote:
Compatibility update for keeping Windows up-to-date in Windows 7

This update performs diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program. The diagnostics evaluate the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem, and help Microsoft to ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows. There is no GWX or upgrade functionality contained in this update.
Given Microsoft's track record of messing with computers without the owners permission for their own benefit, I'm a bit nervous about this. Anyone else seen this and have any thoughts about it?

Smells like telemetry to me...

Install Spybot Anti-beacon That'll block the telemetry.

I have automatic updates switched off and manually install or hide updates to stop them sneaking on data slurping updates.
