    airbender mod

My name is Anton, and im located in the netherlands.
I started building a system meant for shooter games and decided to call this project '(the last) Airbender' cause 1: its proberly the last time im going to realize an idea that involves this much of work and 2: i wanted to do something with airflow in mind.

I had an Lian Li V1000 case lying around that i used for another (obsolete) system, decided to strip it and start from there.

:dremel: Cutting up the case to fit a Coolermaster 700 W PSU:

:dremel: Cutting a piece of aluminum tube for the fan guard:

:dremel: And cutting off a part of an electric motor:

    Looks cool enough.

Using springs to fit the ring to the fan guard:

    Fitted a Coolermaster Silent Fan:

    :D Exit Fan finished.

This System will be based around:

    EVGA P55 F T W mainboard
    Intel® Core™ i7-870 CPU
Geil 8 GB DDR3-1333 EVO ONE memory
2 Asus EAH6850 DirectCU/2DIS/1GD5 Videocards in crossfire mode
    1 OCZ SSDPX-1RVD0080 GB PCIe x4 RevoDrive

    Some pics of the hardware:

    lower Air Intake

The Lian-Li V1000 has 2 compartements, the lower part of the case has an intake fan but
since the air is not going anywhere except cooling harddrives that aren't there, it did not
really make any sense to keep the HD racks.

:dremel: So i cut them out and thought of something that feeds air to the CPU in the upper compartement. I removed the stock fan and used PVC tubes and various plastic parts i found in a local hardware store, and fitted a fan and an airhorn i had lying around.

Wet sprayed the parts black, and installed them:

I had a big gap to fill up front so i was thinking of a second fan, i came up with the idea of a jet engine thats looks somewhat like this:

:dremel: So i looked for parts i could use in various hardware stores, and started building a jet engine from scratch using aluminum air duct parts, PVC, and a Aerocool turbine fan.

Found an old CPU cooler i can use:

Used part of a led lamp:

    For the rear cone.

:dremel: Cutting up a tin can:

Installed a orange CCFL for exhaust lightning effect:

    :D Rear part finished:

:dremel: Cutting up PVC for the front part:

    Shaping it somewhat curved:

    :dremel: I can use this!

    :dremel: Fitting the turbine fan:

    :D Taking shape:

    Wet sprayed black:

Very, very cool intake fan mod :thumb" maybe you should mount on the side of the case for something different? :D Subbed

This looks absolutely superb! I may actually have to try something similar just for decorative use  But I do also think that the lower intake isn't going to do anything, axial fans generate barely any pressure, so no air is going to travel through that narrow pipe. If you want the tube to work, you should use a radial- or blower fan to push air through it... With your skills it shouldn't be hard to make that look good as well :)

AWESOME jet engine mate. When you built that rear fan thing at the start, I was like "WTF?"
But then you built the front up and I was like "Aaaaw, yeaaaah"

Youve got the same GPU as me, only you have xfire, I was thinking about xfire as theyre good value for the money.
Can you give me the frame rates for BFBC2 @ 1920x1080? :D

That jet engine is purely stunning and that part alone is probably one of the best mods on here.. And there is A LOT of good mods on here, and using one of those old fan ccfl's for the engine light.. pure genius.

Great work man, i will have an eye on this for sure! That turbine looks WICKED awsome, and the intake idea for the cpu cooler is very original too!
