So, what phone?
Well, my Galaxy Nexus is dead, O2 won't replace it due to 'water damage'. So it's new phone time.
I'm going to go to CEX and see how much they'll give me for instore credit and pick something up from there. Poor condition ones are given about £175, I don't know what a non working on will give. Hopefully not much less, the phone's in mint condition, it just won't charge. So, what phones are there do you reckon? Looking at Android phones, please no iPhones, I hate iOS with a passion. Touchscreen, have relatively decent hardware as well. ICS would be a bonus as well.

It's got to be one of the top end HTC or Galaxy range tbh I have the HTC One x I love it fast and a great screen. If you go for the samsung dont get the SII if you want ICS seems to mess the chatging system up on them.

I presumed your budget was whatever you can get for your current phone.
But until you actually give a budget, you'll get a lot of different answers :P

Have you tried using a different battery? If there's still water inside leaving it in a bag of rice in the airing cupboard for a week can work wonders.
If it really is a goner and money was no object then the Galaxy S3 would be my recommendation but for £175 all in you might be able to get a HTC Desire HD. The HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 are closer to £200 and up.

I personally wouldn't recommend a top end phone since the price is just ridiculous (in my opinion)
For £150 you could pick up a Desire HD, or maybe if you could spend more (£200) you could get a Galaxy S2. Really depends on how much you actually get, and ofcourse what you'll actually be using the phone for. You looked at W7.5 phones? Currently using a Trophy from HTC, and am loving it (got it for £65) For more monies you could get something like a Lumia 710, or HD7

The reason I stated Android was because of the amount I've spent in the marketplace on it.
The Desire HD could be a shout though. I'm going to go in and see how much they'll give me and go from there, also got a quote for repairs on it.

Don't suppose you have phone insurance with your bank?
There are a lot of options depending on what you want. Personally I have an s2 and it was great, I "bodge installed" ICS and got frustrated, i later found out that I had put on a very buggy kernel. Anyway I rooted and installed the resurrection remix rom. It has made an amazing difference to my enjoyment of the handset. Touchwiz is gone and in its place is a pleasant experience with better battery life. To be honest you can do well with orange branded handsets such as the monte Carlo and San Francisco. Also check out gsmarena they have a compare section so you can see like for like comparisons of key features, cpu ram internal storage screen etc.

Erm.. I haven't considered that, but the letter I got from O2 was that water damage (which covers everything from complete submersion to condensation getting in. Basically any, no matter how small that water gets into the phone and causes the solder (or something similar) to rust voids the warranty essentially as it's such a common problem) wasn't covered by their warranty, Samsungs and chances are most insurance companies won't cover it either.

Water damage how ever slight is never covered by warranty

Yeah, I didn't know this, otherwise I would have kept it in an air tight case. What annoyed me was that the phone has been kept in a case ever since I got it, and these few weeks of rain have managed to void my warranty.

HTC One S. I saw one and auditioned it. It's ****ing fantastic. Just as fast as the One X, with a slightly lesser quality screen (and Pen-Tile..meh) and less onboard memory.
That said, it's a solid phone. I wouldn't mind the Galaxy, but I got fond of the One S already after a day's usage. That or get the Motorola Atrix HD. That isn't bad apart from the frankly wonky camera. Note, the One X has an infintely better front camera if you care about that.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET A WILDFIRE OR DESIRE C. Those buggers are a pain in the ass. A One V would be comparable to last years mid range but wouldn't match up to your Nexus. Also feels kinda cheap. (I work with all these phones on a day to day basis. I rarely use their cameras though) |
