I've nicknamed this, "The Monkeys Weapon". 1000 thanks to my brother who has done all of the work so far. Yes, it's going to have to go into the Mountain Mods 'extended' UFO case for the duration of the challenge. Afterwards, it's going to be pulled apart anyway.
Yeh, love those Mountain Mod cases. Think i will have to invest in one of those and get rid of the TJ-07
A pair of 850W NorthQ power supplies. Second one is at present on the case floor, directly below the graphics cards. Pump for CPU loop is primed. Next step to connect the sense wires from one PS to the other and power up the MB. I'm going to run out of time, though. Might have to be finished on Monday night.
Looks really AWESOME! Should hammer out those points! What about cooling, how many fans in the case, because even though those 295's exhaust to the rear, you will still get a good build up of heat from them inside the case.
Not using a top on the case while running the air-cooled 4x GTX295's. After the challenge I'll be keeping a pair of them and water cooling. At that point the case will have the 'big window' top fitted.
NorthQ power supplies suck! My brother said that the 'slave' supply (powering 2x GTX295's) kept shutting down after 5 mins. I'm guessing some sort of protection circuit is kicking in, probably due to lack of juice being drawn from some of the rails. Swapped for a Enermax Infiniti 720W as the slave PS and no more problems.
Nooooo - don't use Infiniti 720's - I had about 5 in different machines that all failed after typically 6 month lifetimes
It's the only spare PSU I have right now and it seems to be doing the job. In a couple of weeks time it'll be boxed back up and "the spare" again.
It's probably a little unfair to accuse the NorthQ 850W modular power supplies of sucking. I've used a couple of them before and when Scan have them on "Today Only" for less than 65 quid, they're pretty good value for money and reliable so far. Just don't buy a pair of them to use as master and slave.
