    It sounds like such a lucrative way to earn money until you start realising that these security researchers probably spend weeks working on each vulnerability, and stand every chance of not being 'first' to report it.

    Yup. There was a guy on the second day of the competition who ran out of time before succeeding in exploiting Chrome, so he got bupkis. I mean, he'll still be able to get a payout from Google if he can prove the bug exists before someone else does - but he doesn't get the bonus payout (and shiny laptop) that he would also have received if he'd been a bit quicker.

    And that you could probably earn a lot more by working for an organisation who are less altruistic.
