I'm looking for something that's a good all-rounder... Decent colour reproduction (I have a spyder for calibration) to edit photos Decent Response time and low input lag for gaming Good viewing angles to watch movies minimum of vga + DVI/HDMI/Display Port Shouldn't break the bank! Rotation is a nice plus. U2412M is the current favourite - what are your views? Anyone else I should consider?
I have had my u2412m for a year now and absolutely no complaints, it doesn't have hdmi which is annoying for when I want to use it for my xbox but apart from that it is perfect and can be had for around £200
I can live without HDMI so long as it has one of those additional expansions. Scan had them at £185 about 3 months ago.. when I didn't need one
I have a 2412m too, have my pc [DVI] and xbox 360 [vga] hooked up to it... only gripe is switching inputs could be easier... but other than that it's been great... another quirk is it'll stretch 1080p inputs [like the xbox] to the full 1200p height of the screen... switching it to another res and it'll scale as it should with black bars [have my xbox set to 1680x1050 over the VGA cable]... haven't noticed it do it at any other res... one more thing... if you do get one... keep the box, if you ever have to send it back to dell, they'll ask for a part number off the monitor... only it's not on the monitor, it's on the box... I found this out when I had to RMA one for a stuck pixel...
I have a U241M too, great monitor. HDMI isn't an issue, just get an HDMI-DVI cable. (I connect my desktop via DP, and use the HDMI for my ARM.) The aspect ratio stuff is a bit annoying, esp. when I was using a Gamecube (4:3, also going via a component-vga converter) and had to manually switch the aspect ratio in the settings of the monitor, so keep that in mind if you want to switch regularly. Changing inputs can be done quite quickly though: you can set up shortcuts in the on-screen menu, e.g. I can press any button to show the menu, and then press button 1 or 2 to select DVI or DP directly.
Me three. Love mine. The price on them does seem to be quite changeable. I got mine at £230, but they've been as low as £180. I'd happily still pay £230 now.
Thank you for input and reassurances! Got it a few days ago and first impressions are that it's lovely! I am waiting for a display port cable to arrive so I can have it hooked up over that instead of DVI and use a DVI-> HDMI to plug in my personal laptop. I need to look at calibrating the thing as the greens are apparently a little off. Not sure if the spyder 2 is suited to that particular backlight though.
