Does anyone have any hard data on how many watts these things can cool with an ambient of say 20-25C? Im trying to determine whether i should just get one of these or a similar rad for $6 more.
I know true_gamer has a 1080 rad. It cooled his overclocked 990x and 3 580s. And now cools his 3960x and 2 higher specced/clocked 580s. I think he once said that he was at cooling capacity with his old setup running on it. He might drop in and be able to give you some hard results. Maybe drop him a pm even?
As I understand it (mostly through what amounts to gossip at various LC forums) these giant radiators take up as much space as three 120.3's, and perform as well as two 120.3's.
I have a pair of 120.3's cooling three overclocked 580's and an overclocked 2600K and it's ample cooling. Temps stay very low even through extended BF3 sessions.
Bundymania tested some of the larger rads here Not necessarily a waste if it means you can run low speed fans for the same cooling levels as smaller rads with high speed fans.
Oh, its a waste money wise for what i have planned Considering what im going to get has 2 to 3 times the cooling capacity for about $10 more. I just wanted to see how this would compare for ease of installation reasons.
