Just brought a new R4E as I've recently being given a used 4930k for a very low price from a friend.

    Then something dawned on me.

I realised that the R4E probably doesn't have the BIOS to support Ivy E. Since I don't have a Sandy Bridge E CPU, is there any way that I can use what I currently have to enable Ivy support if the board did come with an older BIOS?

    Thanks

Doesn't this board do headless BIOS update? BIOS flashback I think it's called. Have a look in the manual (I know this isn't the most helpful but I'm trying to finish some things so I can get away from work)

Thanks for the reply, but just looked that up and apparently you can only update it to a certain version (still before the Ivy support version) before you have to get the version that required booting up to desktop. Not sure if there is a way of converting the newer BIOS's to at least get it to POST with the newer CPU though.
