Hey, as the title suggests, completely building a new system, i5 2500K, p67, 570 etc etc... Im looking for a pair of 4GB dual channel sticks, prefferably 1600 mhz and faster? Anyone got any that you want to shameless plug? And any that i should avoid like the plague? thanks
I was mindful of perhaps wanting to fill all the RAM slots in the future and new spastic humungoid CPU coolers blocking some if not all the RAM slots so I went for this: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-ddr3-vengeance-jet-black-lp-pc3-12800-(1600)-non-ecc-cas-9-9-9-24-xmp-15v Relatively cheap, seems to do the job, not tall and spiky.
I wanted 1.35v so bought: http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...2x4GB)+DDR3+1600MHz+9-9-9-24+?productId=43961
I'll second the Corsair vengeance low profile ram, I'm using two sticks with the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro and there's no clearance issues whatsoever. I've never seen the point of massive heatsinks for ram, they don't seem to do much.
Hmm thanks for the suggestions guys. Should i avoid anything over 1.5V then for SB? Does sandybridge prefer lower voltage? So should not be tempted by? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/247678 Thanks!
The voltage is not the be all and end all. The way I understand it, one way to eek out stable performance of RAM/ CPUs etc is putting more voltage through it. Items specced to run at lower voltage mean the part is generally of a high enough quality not to require the boost gained by operating at higher voltages. Problem is that is not the only way to gain stability, all the parts in the thread also have had varying latency profiles and clock speeds, it is a bit of a minefield. Who's is to say that if you were to overvolt your 1.5v 1600Mhz to 1.65v it might not clock up to 2000Mhz as per the ram you have identified from ebuyer, it may be possible (but not guaranteed). The general consensus is for everyday use there is hardly any difference between 1333Mhz and 1600Mhz and even less between 1600Mhz and 2000Mhz. When it comes to value, the current pricing sweetspots on RAM however mean while the difference between 1333Mhz and 1600Mhz is minimal, the difference between 1600Mhz and 2000Mhz appears somewhat excessive.
just brought some corsair 1.5v vengeance 8-8-8-24 removed the heatsinks and let the beautiful black pcb memory breathe.. photoshop opens soooo much quicker as i only had 4gb b4.. Also depends on if you are wanting to overclock to what memory might suit you best.
Gskill ripjaws x ram runs at 1.5v and is 1600mhz (can't remember timings but they're pretty good) and I run mine at 1866 no problem with same voltages and timings out of the box
Fair enough....I dont think that i'd be ripping stuff off any time soon, but good to know! hmm ok. Which would you guys recommend? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264753 - G-Skill 8GB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/274038 - Corsair 8GB RED Vengeance http://www.ebuyer.com/product/247677 - Corsair 8GB XMS3 Memory Kit CL9 1.65V
