Everyone knew it could. It's jsut safer because it's not worthwhile hacking a Macbook as there is such a smaller amount out there compared to Windows computers.

No they don't. Mac haters just winge because people don't bother hacking macs as it's such a small target, and try and turn it onto Mac owners.

While I agree with your point, you clearly haven't spent enough time around idiots. A friend of mine refused to believe that you could even write a virus for a mac stating that they were just too rock solid. When I tried to explain the point you are making about being a small target he just flat out refused and said I have no idea about computers.

There are always fanboys and girls, but unfortunately Apple have been happy to continue to the myth of macs always having god_mode enabled and thus fuel fanboyism and anti macisms relating to virus attacks. Even when they did suggest the use of an anti virus, they didn't really push it very hard as they know its a massive selling point.

Just to note, I am neither a windows, mac or linux fanboy.

    I have. :)

You can't tell a Mac user anything usually. The ones on here are OK as they usually use both, but the ones who aren't really computer enthusiasts... they're painful.

I actually ran a Photoshop batch based benchmark on my i7, and teh same batch on his Nehalem based Mac Pro. Obviously my rig won... his response? "The Mac is still faster", and walked off.

How can you reason with people like that?

I give up now. Leave them to it. As the above cartoon suggests... who gives a **** about Macs anyway?

If a mac user is surfing Russian donkey porn sites and downloads something and installs it, they have an equal chance of getting a virus as anyone else. Security starts behind the keyboard. Do we benefit from being a smaller sample? no doubt. Do we get more default security settings out of the box? sure. But an idiot can get a mac infected as fast as a window machine if you let them. As a mac user, I can tell you that a quick google will give you plenty of things you can do to harden your mac with only a few steps. But you need to do that even with a 'nix machine.

I think Mac users are pretty deluded regarding PC security. The only thing that protects them is that they are in the tiny minority - events like Pwn2Own demonstrate just how easy Macs and especially Safari are to break into. I use W7 + Chrome and I'm a lot more secure than a comparable Mac running Safari.

Thankfully, I appear to be one of the few people whose Mac user friends are not in denial about Macs being just as vulnerable as Windows systems.

I have to admit there are some advantages to a mac,but i think if i bought one it'd be on a slippery slope to buying an audi tt and wearing Paul Smith suits and bouncing up and down on a pork sword:jawdrop:.Think i'll stick to my hursuit and manly pc.For manly see forever fixing the damn thing and chasing the next upgrade.

Mac. Think Different. Buy a computer exactly like everyone else's and have no way of upgrading or customising whatsoever. Yeah!... that's individuality. Now where did I put the keys to my TT... oh, they're over there with my iPad and copy of Hairdressing Weekly.

Some family friends have bought three Macs, one for the mother, one for the father, and one for the daughter. All the same for one happy family gleefully computing together! Looks very nice in their study.

Now fast forward four years when I'm invited over for a LAN. They're all tottering along on the same Macs as my shiny, freshly upgraded PC is sh**ing out more frames per second than it knows what to do with, displaying over two beautiful (almost) matching monitors, and playing games they can't even dream of running.

And if you buy a Mac for gaming, you are an idiot. Surely you know that's not the point of a Mac, I mean seriously, don't be an idiot. All Computers aren't used for Gaming. I'm on my Macboom now, yet I also own a Windows Computer for gaming. As I use this for general stuff, working, and I take it in to work.
