Photos Which photo is better?

As in the title, which photo do you think is better? Posting poll for ease of use.

I can't exactly explain why, but the B&W seems more pleasant to my eyes.

On a side note, Sennheiser for the WIN!

 

B&W - it looks crisper and more modern which fits with the item being photographed. Older style headphones may have looked better in Sepia...

B&W, also because of the fact that the Sennheiser are black always, not brown-ish. Having the picture in B&W makes it feel as if it was real.

 

Neither. They both look like the effect was applied in camera. Maybe I'm just fussy. If it was do or die; fine - not the sepia.

 

The Black and white.

The sepia shot just doesn't LOOK like sepia in this photo.. If you can understand what i mean?
Kinda makes the shot look "cheap" in my opinion

 

I prefer the sepia, but echoing previous commentors; it doesn't look like sepia. But even so, I like how it brings out the warm colours. B&W always seems to be so dull unless it has high contrast, IMHO.

I think the black and white is more attracting.

I think it would probably be better in colour. I can think of no reason for having it black and white at all.

It's a contemporary product. Why B&W? I'm always sceptical of the use of B&W. I've nothing against it if it's in context, but I can't help but think this has been done for for no particular reason... just for the want of something different to do to it.

Definitely the B&W, but I think that is specific to this subject rather than a global impression.

I have a theory that says that any suitably large black and white print will look like art to most people.

Some day I plan to test this theory by taking the worst picture I can find, printing it in B&W in 20x30" size and framing it nicely and see if someone is dumb enough to buy it.

 

BW. I'm allergic to the piss-yellow light of incandescent lamps, and the "sepia" to me seems like you just took a quick shot under light bulbs and the white balance ended up yellow.

Neither work for a product shot,

-The background needs to be white, maybe place it on some perspex to add some base reflections rather then the harsh shadow.
-Rotate the headphones slighty so that you get the whole of the brand name in, the end of Sennheiser is out of your DOF.
-Get the epxosure right in cam and you don't have to worry later.

Then you can play around in LR/CS4/BLAH but as its a modern product it wants to be in colour, give it a white background will help it pop.

Well I like the Black & White one although the sepia one has a certain quality. but which one is best?

What's the photo for? I don't think it's an image that needed a B&W or sepia "effect" process at all. Not with a product that is primarily B&W to start with.

I like the lighting, but I feel it could have been improved by:
- Not having the cans twisted, they should face each other
- In a narrow DOF image, the point of focus should be on something important. At the centre of yours is a the blank part of the band.
- The brand name looks too tightly cropped.
- The base isn't clean enough (Is that a hair?)
- The headphones are dusty (Easy to fix in post)
- The shadow to the rear on right (Base meets background) is distracting. It could easily be shopped out
- The cable could be shopped out, as long as you're not seeing the attachment grommet you could get away with the cable being missing (as long as it doesn't appear to break the laws of physics)
