Tropico, Sim City, Pharaoh, Stronghold, Settlers.

They are all long series of games, I think usually the latest one is the best one to get.

Simcity 4 is old but goood still, as is Settlers 4, ROAN (there is a newer one too, but I cant remember what its called or vouch for its goodness).

    OUT WITH YOU!!!

    :p

Seriously, if you want to go with something like pharaoh, but more modern - Caesar IV is the latest of that series. There's also Emperor if you want a more ancient Chinese theme.

The Settlers (5): Heritage of Kings
The Settlers (6): Rise of an Empire
The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom
    The Settlers Online

Are the games following on from 4, their are reamkes and expansions.

Ive played 5 and 7, 5 was quite good though its been ages since ive played it, 7 i picked up cheap on steam its quite a good city builder though combat elements are a bit basic- rock paper scissor.

This thread is making me want to re-install The Settlers IV, that game makes me feel really mellow.

The first one was always one of my timesinks, back on the amiga 1200. Was a great game, mostly just played the gametype where its just me on my own to build my own city. Making it so your city covered the whole map was epic.

The only other settlers game I played was 4, same game but different take on things with 3 different normal civs (romans, vikings and mayans with there own building types and warrior types), and some dark pollution race(s), can't remember if they were campaign only though.
Was a good game but felt just like the settlers 1 with more civs and a gfx update. Didn't have the magic of the first. Might have to try the newer ones at some point.

Settlers 2 is the best, they made a 10th anniversary edition too a few years back that was exactly the same but with nice shiny visuals. Worth picking that one up.

I played this again a few months back. It's a little basic but a huge timesink and very addictive.

If you can get SimCity 4 to run properly on a new computer I bow down to you. That game is nigh impossible purely because of the terrible rush coding. It's brilliant though.

SimCity 3000 however... get that. Now. It's perfect in almost every computer, and it's just awesome. Plus I unabashedly have the soundtrack.

Do have fun with the tropico series too. And the Sierra games City Builders are still fantastic and haven't aged badly at all due to the great 2d sprites. Pharoah being the most polished and Emperor being the most asian.

Has anyone else played Cities XL 2012? I bought it a few months ago and had a few decent hours out of it but the game seems unfinished. It feels like it needs multiplayer for it to really work as a game because the city you create needs other places to trade with for the economy to work properly. Unfortunately there are no pre existing cities in the game to trade with, so you have to make them all yourself. I'm glad I bought it in a sale and not at it's full price of £29.99

The steam version of SimCity 4 works perfectly on my Win7 PC.

Hmm, then I stand corrected. Just don't get the CD version of SC4. That is impossible to run.
