I have 2 machines awaiting -bigadv work units . What is an appropriate amount of time for them to be awaiting work ? Its says " Failed to get work no other work to do " ?
From what I've read, bigadv does have waves of shortages occasionally. However, I do know that one of my SMP 2 rigs is struggling to get a unit today.
I think there's currently an issue with the assignment servers .... http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=19770
Here we are exactly a week later and unable to pick up work units again .. This screws my PPD so badly. NOT HAPPY
It looks like everyone is being starved at the moment or is it just Linux users ? What about the 12 thread brigade ?
Had a look on the PG forum, seems they are moving some servers around which will impact bigadv for a couple of weeks. Also standard SMP WUs are a higher priority than bigadv for the science at the moment (there is a backlog to be processed apparently). I wonder if this is a precursor to preventing 8 thread CPUs running bigadv ?
Thanks for the explaimnation One_Box, No -BigAdv is destroying my score. It's good to know it'll be back. J.
Just jumped over to Linux rather than Windows and picked up a P6900 straight away, haven't had one for about 11 days on windows. Maybe time to swap over...
I don't know what the OFFICIAL line is, but I found this... http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=19906&p=198054#p198054 I've read LOTS of hypothesizing over the core count being increased, but it's nothing more than speculation as far as I've seen. Let's face it, 8 cores machines seems to have increased the number of participants in the project, or at least made it more accessible to more people. The sooner that software allows you to pool the resources of your machine(s) to create a virtualised single machine, the better.... Cue - The homecloud!
That can be done with BCCD, Clusterknoppix, Quantian, Pelican HPC and Parallel Knoppix. BCCD works perfectly for what you are wanting, but you need a gigabit network to prevent slowdowns over the network.
I have a wired gigabit network. I need to read into this.... Any good starting points you can recommend?
Not seen an A5 in weeks either linux or Windows and i feel maligned with the new " Big Advs" coming after new year so i have stopped folding .. Stanford should review their " Ingratitude " towards their folding partners.
Not that I have a lot folding for us right now but my single 12-thread rig hasn't picked up any bigadvs for ages now and after having a read over at Stanford it looks like there is corruption on the bigadv WU servers which they are working on but also there aren't many current bigadv projects left as well. In Jan 2012 they are bringing out new WU's that require 16-thread CPUs to work on by the sounds of it which is very annoying but people with 12-thread rigs but there we go! I really need to get my SR-2 built back up again, 3 months without it and my PPD has plummeted!
