My rig in 2000 was already 4 years old, and since I was only 8, I was happy with it.
As you can see on my current system, I'm in need of a new hard drive or two.

2000: AMD K6/2 450mhz, 128MB of whatever RAM, 8.4gb Seagate HDD, and I think it was a S3 Savage 3D 32MB and windows 98

2010: Whatever's in a Macbook. 2ghz something-or-other + 2gb ram?

 

Ooh a packard bell of some description, Pentium 3, 8gb hdd some kinda integrated ati graphics, dial up modem and windows 98. Apparantly it cost my parents about a grand, mental compared to nowadays. And now i gots a q660, 4gb ram, about 2.5tb of hdd space, hd5770 and windows 7

2000: technically its from like 1996 or somthing so its hard to remember! i didnt upgrade till 2002!

would have used the 30Gb for all, but didn't have an OS install disc, it came with win98 already on, and we were on a slow pay as you go dial up internet to downloading wasn't an option.

This got painted black, and has been the quietest machine i have ever owned!

back in 2000 I was using a Supra R computer with a 166Mhz Pentium, 32MB of RAM, a PowerVR 4MB 3D accelerator I never really knew the name of,a Fujitsu 1GB 4500RPM HD and a 17GB 5400RPM Maxtor

 

my old rig is my current one. I just sat on it, fired up Crysis and rode it back through time.

Can't be 100% sure since it's such a long time ago, but guessing roughly from the PC i got for Uni + a years of upgrades, it's likely this:

HDD: 4GB Seagate 5400RPM ATA +12GB Seagate 5400RPM ATA (ironically, despite seagate being the 'reliable' brand at the time, in a year both drives died and the replacement 4gb drive died again, put me off Seagate for years)

*supplied as a non-bootable CD-ROM and a floppy boot disk containing the correct drivers, but not configured at all.
This was the hardcore way to learn DOS: no manual, just a non-functioning boot disk, non-functioning PC and a DOS prompt, with the internet being a 30min bus ride away to the nearest uni building... i still feel the pain ^^
Also, the 50/50 chance of the supplied USB patch for win95 nuking your install or working was fun too

In all fairness it was probably a bit later than 2000... but it was my 1st computer and I got it in '01 2nd hand

 

in 2000 I Had my Toshiba Satellite 440CDT with a Pentium MMX 133mhz, 32MB EDO Kingston KTM-2X64V/SPL, 1.4Go HDD, Win98 & a D-link DFE-650 100mbps fast ethernet card. A 12'' tft Screen.

 

Pretty much this but with a really bad graphics card

Either that or we still had the 386

Now I have my old Athlon 64 X2, 2GB RAM, Must be about a TB of hard drive space now, 7800GTX
