Thought i'd have a go at some of the games in my Steam Library that I hadn't shown any love to recently.. But they wont run?

COD4 - (Was going to run the Campaign again)
    Bioshock (1&2)
    GTA4
    LA Noire
    Fallout 3

All wont work! They startup fine, then as soon as I click Play from their startup menus.. They go black screen as if to start up the Dev movie clips then hang and crash! :wallbash:

Does anyone have a workaround for this? As i've bought them all in the last 9 months, so would hate to have wasted my money! :worried:

Question is what OS you run them on ? Do you have DirectX 9 installed ?

I can't imagine it's an issue with the games / Steam - none of those are really all that old.

Have you done all the usual drivers etc?

Ahhh.. I'll have a double check on DX9, as I know I have DX10 & DX11. I thought that if the game needed it then it would've forced an install? But then it might not do that.. I know all the main drivers are up-to-date, would there be any other things like Direct X that may need an older version installed as well?

Haven't tried COD4 in a little while, but last time I checked it certainly seemed to work (on this PC running W8.1 etc).

As others have asked, what's your setup?

    Setup is:
    i3-4130
    EVGA 750TI SC
    8Gb Avexir Core Orange RAM
    MSI Z97I Gaming AC
OCZ SSD with Win7 Home Premium on it
WD 3Tb HDD with Steam and other games running off it
None of it is OC'd and all standard.

It's weird how they seem to crash, yet I could run Borderlands with full settings at 1080p with no issues!

I was having some issues with some steam games not running on my laptop, which turned out to be a windowed/fullscreen issue. In particular, Fallout New Vegas wouldn't start. Here's how I fixed it:

    Update on this:
I tried to download DX9, and it said that a newer version was already installed.. So it gave up? Does anyone know where I can actually download it from?

Steam installs a separate DX9 for each game where required AFAIK so it's not likely to be the issue.

Have you tried going to where the .exe is for the game and right clicking and choosing "run as admin" - don't know why but this has made some steam games of mine work in the past that previously wouldn't work.

Try verifying the cache and then maybe creating a desktop shortcut from the .exe.

I had trouble with Mafia closing verified the cache and there were a ton of files missing no idea what happened but it worked and I completed it again.

Sleeping dogs was closing at the first cinematic when he gets arrested by the police..verified the cache and created a shortcut and it worked.

I do use ccleaner so maybe it deleted some stuff it shouldn't have.
