Hi all, not sure whether this is the right place but here goes..

I have a couple of Wordpress blogs that get a reasonable amount of traffic but lately I've noticed quite an increase in new user registrations. I've done an online search for the email addresses and virtually all of then are flagged up as spammers.

The notifications that I get are from the blog as opposed to emails.

My question is how are they finding the blog in the first place and why are they registering? What do they hope to gain and should I be worried in any way?

    Many thanks

WP blogs always get heaps of spammers/robots - you should be able to get a plug in that makes sign up slightly more secure by adding a capture or something.

I ran a WP-based site with most of the comment features disabled, so it wasn't physically possible to click a box and comment on the articles.

I still got spam though - I could see the comments in the admin page.

stopforumspam.com is also a good site for checking if someone is a spammer. You can search by username, email address or IP address to see if someone's been flagged as a spammer. It doesn't stop them signing up in the first place however (welcome to our world)
