Can't play it properly due to the video lag going on. 5/10 from me until a patch comes out!

So you slate the game so much, then hand it an 8/10? WTF?! 6/10 would be my rating based on that review, at most.

<snip>...as the script stumbles along with all the charisma of a nude, drunken grandfather...<snip>

Really? Did you have to use that? I have just had lunch...:D

    Zombie mode?

Uh gee, 4 players to fight of hordes of Zombies. . . .does that sound familiar?

There are plenty of flaws, but I feel the review makes it clear they are mostly found in the singleplayer campaign and that the multiplayer and co-op compensate for them. Also, bear in mind that just because something is crude doesn't mean it isn't effective.

Zombie mode was also in World at War, which actually predates L4D's release by a week or so. Valve were obviously known to be working on it before then, but it's not like even Valve came up with the idea of fighting zombies. Besides, gameplay is fundamentally diffierent - L4D is about moving through different areas, COD Zombies is about just holding a small area and unlocking level ups.

Joe, why don't you post separate scores for single player and multi?

Zombies is OK, but whenever I'm playing it all I can think about is how much better L4D is. Treyarch also don't do single player campaigns nearly as well as Infinity Ward. I'm about half way through on veteran and it's very frustrating that they still feel the need to use sections with infinitely respawning enemies after IW largely did away with them in the last game.

Is it any wonder that I don't much like straight FPSs any more, given they cost a bomb and the single-player missions are only a few hours of gameplay?
Social LAN games with friends are fun, but I prefer an immersive narrative and environment.

I'll go back and play Borderlands again as a different character. I should also give the Stalker games another play. And I never got around to finishing The Witcher. Plus Metro 2033 is looking quite cheap now.

The biggest element of CoD is the multiplayer these days. Sad, but true.

zombie mode is fun, but difficult, and i think requires everyone to be within arm's reach for it to work. because voice communication simply isn't enough (from WaW experience, Bops seems to be text only so far). i was playing WaW zombie mode with housemates when that first came out, and that was brilliant.

multiplayer was not great, as highlighted with the review, i have been confused by the map design far too many times. and consequently, my score suffers (well, that's my excuse for getting killed by smc8788 many times)

Nuke town is still my favorite, because it's simple, can actually know where i'd end up if i go down a path.

I agree with you on both the sad and the true, except I would say it isn't restricted to CoD. Halo is another serious culprit, and I haven't played much of the Battlefield games recently (Bad Company and later), but my brother is only ever playing multiplayer and never says a word about the singleplayer. MoH was no better, except the multiplayer there was poor as well.

It's like this generation just don't care about a well crafted, engrossing single player.

Thanks for the timely review, Joe.

I can now avoid this game, and not wonder if I'm missing anything.

This isn't aimed solely at CODBLOPS (brilliant name!), but I find relying on multiplayer to bolster a game's score is pure sh!te.

I've finally grown weary of whiny little 13 year old gits, playing out their own insult competition in the servers, so I stick mainly to the single player games these days and, as such, five hours of poorly scripted gameplay is insulting (especially considering how much they were hoping to charge for it).

I'll forget about this one, as I did with COD5, and pick it up in the bargain bins in a year or so.

Installed it this morning, might be able to tear myself off New Vegas tonight to have a play through the single player campaign.

BTW the bottom section of page 1 of the review is blocked reading this at work saying:

Probably the drunken, naked grandfather causing the problems, as he always does.
