The important question is, what are we going to call it? LHCing just doesnt have the ring to it

This is nice, but surely Folding@home is more important?

    It's a choice, isn't it? Personally I've become disillusioned with Folding@home.

It's difficult to say (nobody wants to stand up and say trying to cure cancer isn't a noble cause) but i'd certainly find searching for the Higgs a more compelling goal than watching proteins fold.

Having said that the LHC@home site is arse, they don't make it very easy to sign up.

...And being currently closed beta it's now full too... :(

I'm looking forward to having a look at this, if the client shows info on what it's crunching then it'll be a great insight.

All this talk of finding the Higgs Boson is giving me a hadron.

    *gets coat*

Are they mad? Restricting to one CPU in todays world is plain crazy.

It's in beta? Get it stable before opening up the cores.

Folding@Home is relatively useless. Conformal energy optimisation of proteins using random seeds - don't get me started. Might as well be studying where a ball lands after you bounce it, if you actually read the output of the research group.

LHC@Home has been going on for ages. No wait, actually years. I donated a considerable amount of time to it over five years ago (think 15 PCs worth). Back then, they were using the public before their supercomputers were up online to help optimise the magnet settings for different particle streams. Much more exciting than Folding@Home.

I didn't find that. Follow the instructions to get the apps, you make your account during the BOINC setup, after it's asked for a restart. Then it's away

    Follow the instructions here: http://boinc01.cern.ch/join-us

not to mention folding@home is not optimized for ati.. there's other ways to use your graphics cards too like pyrit

did a dictionary attack of 2.3 billion pass phrases in 6 and half hours yesterday (one ati 6970).. have the server setup remote to upload caps..

bitcoins value has tanked- getting 422 Mhash/sec btw on the same card.. they say they are going to issue 25 coins per block next year to keep the value up but I've already pulled out for good.. had close to a 1000 Mhash but at that rate your looking at 3+weeks per block solo

this might be interesting to see.. as long as huang doesn't get involved, shows up with some wood screws and a briefcase full of cash

I still see World Community Grid as a far superior use of my PC's time.

What, exactly, will finding the Higgs boson even DO anyway?
