I was given this project idea back in January from Thermaltake about an Iron Man build and for weeks we discussed the project outline and how to incorporate elements of his suit. The Armored Revo case arrived early March and with the design ideas I began constructing Iron Man.

    Enjoy the worklog everyone

Thermaltake Armor Revo will be used for this project.

    Concept/Design

Sir, there are still terabytes of calculations required before an actual flight is... Jarvis... sometimes you gotta run before you can walk.

I got started on the arc reator by picking up a few parts from the hardware store. The material I used to construct this is a sink strain, plexi glass,rc model airplane engine mount, leds and copper wire.

The tricky part was trying to figure out how to secure all the panels together with just two screws.

The center of the reactor is scratch built from polystyrene and dress-up with some socket head screws .

I used strip LEDs (12) and wrap them around the interor of the reactor then used V-groove stryene from Evergreen scale models to dress up the edges.

I built the edges of plexi with 10 mounting brackets also made from styrene then wrapped them with copper wire.I soldered more copper wire from each arc point to the next.

Next I wired the reactor into the 12v molex pin and powered it up.I used kobra sleeving to dress up the wires.

Next I did my first working mock-up..next phase scratch building time.

The chest piece will be constructed in two parts ,First his under armor of all his gears and circuits
2nd the older shell of his armor that will be removable.

I constructed these gears, but dont really care for them, Ill rebuild these at a later time.

I idea is to create a replica chest piece of the Iron Man suit.

Next up..Missile weapons system..These are the missile launchers that rise out of his paldrons and the will be attached to the front and back case doors.

Once again Im using styrene sheeting for the modeling material. The rockets are made from small wooden dowels sanded smooth then painted.

    And heres some finished looks.

I used Testors Decal paper to apply these graphics.

In this shot I painted the case door with a gunmetal finish and started the paint job on the chest piece.

Ill paint the case feet just like Iron Mans boots and add some detail elements.

A look at the front bezel/front panel before it gets painted.

Once again I used gunmetal and red metal flake, both products by duplicolor. After appling my final coats of clear, I took 150 grit sandpaper sand sanded down to bare metal to create battle fatigue.Over the top and around the sides of the exposed areas I sprayed a mixture of 50/50 gunmetal and flat black to simulate scorech marks.

In the following shots you can see this effect being applied.I used Tamiyas Gold Leaf on the power and reset switches.

I also used a Q-tip dipped into Titan Silver simulate scratches in the paint. The fines fibers of the Q-tip give a very realistic scratch effect with this paint choice.

In the next few shots I started on his forearm missile system.

U can see on the case door the effect of scuffing away the paint to achieve the battle fatigue.

I added the gears to the sides of the feet for more detail.

And some panels to the backs as well.
