    Hi All,

I'm planning a budget HTPC build for a friend. Budget is 200ish pounds. He will be watching 720p and 1080p bluray rips on his HDTV via HDMI. He will probably be using XBMC. There may be some very light gaming involved in the future (CS and other source games).

    Already have:
    Case
    Keyboard and mouse
    Monitor
    DVD Drive

This is my scan basket. Any opinions or advice are welcome please. I really can't stretch more than 200 pounds because this pc is being shipped to africa and shipping alone will be half the value of the pc.

    Thanks!
    Betty

Bump. Would that dual core A6 be enough?

I've no personal experience with the dual core, but I've used 3 of the quad cores (a llano, a trinity and a richland) and all of them would be more than powerful enough, so I'm guessing the dual core would be fine.

Overall I would say the build looks good :)

Thats the exact same specs/parts as my HTPC :) except you have a higher clock on the APU.

    Plays Bluray falwlessly.

6400K will be more than enough for HTPC not sure on how good the GPU is for gaming though.

personally the GPU part is really dependant on RAM speed etc so id opt for the fastest RAM in a dual channel setup rather than a single stick which will hinder your memory bandwidth. Using 2133Mhz will be much better than 1600mhz and can yield up to an extra 20% in FPS.

however for HTPC purposes it wont make any difference really.
