You could go £20 over budget and grab a RX 480 8GB.

    Or in budget could go for R9 380X 4GB or a GTX 970 4GB.

Then there's the whole 2nd hand market if you wanted to go down that route.

Edit: Also would be good to know what resolution you game at, and the rest of your rig spec :)

The Amd rx 480 looks a decent 1080p card, available in 4gb and 8gb, if it was me I would pay the extra and go for the sapphire 480 nitro or powercolor 480 devil, with better cooling it should get higher clock speeds

:duh: That'll teach me to not read everything that's in a post :hehe:

Personally, I'd go for the RX 480 that I linked (trying to stay as close to budget as possible), but as noted by heir flick, overclocking will be limited.

At the £200 mark what ever is cheaper between the 4GB RX480 and GTX970. Both perform virtually identically overall. Individual games differ depending but at 1080p nothing becomes unplayable. If you can stretch to it then the 8GB RX480 is worth the jump.

or if you get a reference 480 with 4gb, take it apart and see if you can flash to 8gb. Only do this is if you are happy with a 4gb card though, to avoid disappoint.

I must confess I've been posting here for years and it still scares the s*it out of me. It's a normal reaction when surrounded by people who can spend months debating features of an unfinished game right down to the virtual paintwork and number of polygons.

    480. It piddles on the 970 in DX12 and Vulkan.

No. Either spend the £180 or less on a 480 or wait for the 470 it should cost less than £150.

What genres do you generally play Geoff? And do you usually go for day of release games or do you go for older game bargains?
May have a bearing on advice.

A 4GB 480 is surely the answer here?

Assuming you want to buy today, You will have to pay above your budget to get a amd 480.

As the 480 linked above is not out till the 31st July. Prices could change between now and then as no such thing as price guarenteed.

Looking around actually finding a 480 instock and on budget is hard.

All the 480s that are instock start at £219.99

Theres not alot of Nvidia 970 stock in below £200 either. Its either one of those or a R9 390 for similar money.

At £160 - £180 with the way stock and prices are you looking at significant drop in performance. With the 960 or R9380 the only current gpus in stock at those prices.

With the way the pound is also we may never see the 480 4gb at its correct launch price.

I recently bought an ASUS Strix R9 380 OC for £150.
Currently enjoying Dirt Rally maxed out and recently completed Doom, also with all settings maxed out.

Decent 1080p card for the money and it is dead quiet.

have you not seen the 470 reviews ? i tihnk that would be my choice at £200 or less

8GB RAM of 1600 mhz is enough just for gaming if you intend to do other things that may be more intensive then 16GB if your budget allows. Id opt to push the money into GPU though.
