Why is this still active? If you must have a mobile site (although I can't think of a good reason why) then at least test it in a development environment or by some sort of opt in option until it works properly. Would still rather see you scrap the while thing entirely tho.

Edit: The redirect to the full site link does work now, altho as soon as you click on a link on the full site it just redirects you back to the mobile site. Not sure if that counts as an improvement or not...

Having had my first proper play with this, it needs to be switched off as an automatic option now. As Krazeh states above I can access the full version of the site on my mobile by clicking the link at the bottom, but upon clicking on any article from there it just redirects to the mobile homepage.

So in essence the main site is inaccessible for me as I don't need/want to use the mobile site.

I am also having the self-same problem.

Yup, bounce to s**tsville regardless of having the chrome flag ticked to request desktop site. Also, when I get bounced back to the mobile homepage, it doesnt even have the flaming article I wanted to read (posted by Gareth today I think)

That's the other issue, the content on the mobile site seems to be lagging behind the desktop version, hence my comment about the site being inaccessible at the moment.

I ain't posted nuffink yet today, 'cos I'm a filthy slacker. Unless Editor Chris is reading this, in which case I'm a terribly, terribly hard worker who deserves a big fat raise.

Ah. Sorry, hadn't clocked that. Your point stands correct though. Site is all but inaccessible.

Gareth
It was the utopia review which has now magically appeared on mobile site.

I no longer appear to be getting redirected to the mobile site. Has it been disabled? If so, thank you. Can I ask that it's either not turned back on or that if you must do it you make it an opt in option?

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi guys! Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Brad and I work as one of the developers for bit-tech.

Having read some of your comments on the forum regarding the recent mobile site that went live, I would like to quickly say thank you for your constructive feedback. Rest assured your comments will be used for the continued improvement of the site, until everyone is happy with it.

We feel you deserve an explanation as to why we've launched a mobile-friendly version of the site. This is because Google recently pushed an initiative to motivate websites to create 'Mobile-friendly' versions of their websites. We tried to get our site up quickly, and therefore inevitably missed a few things while doing tests in production.

As it stands the site is not perfect. Far from it actually, as we are still facing bugs on the functionality of the site! But be reassured we are always looking to improve!

As of yesterday we fixed a bug many of you had flagged up to us, about how when you click the 'Full bit-tech website' button you merely get re-directed back to the mobile site. This issue has been fixed and we're now working on a few more bugs.

Thank you for your patience, and enjoy the rest of your day!

Brad.

Excuse me for being blunt but so what? I'm may be missing something but I'm not sure I'm seeing the link between a Google initiative and the need to actually have a mobile 'friendly' site? Do you get something in return for complying with the Google initiative? Or is there a penalty for not doing so?

If you must push ahead with this can we get a promise that it'll be possible for users to choose not to use the mobile site at all and have that choice be remembered between browsing sessions?

Google displays search results according to an internal ranking system, the details of which are a closely-guarded secret and which are in a constant state of flux. The latest change, as Bradley has said, is that having a mobile site (or responsive main site that plays well on mobile) positively affects the ranking. So, imagine two tech sites - let's call them Tit-Bech and Xehus. Both sites publish a review for the Amtel Pore-i15 processor on the same day, and under the previous ranking system were level-pegging on the Google results page for that term. Google issues the change which prioritises sites with mobile-friendly designs; Xehus has one, Tit-Bech doesn't. Result: Xehus' review races up the results page, while Tit-Bech's drops to the bottom. Traffic-- for Tit-Bech, which means Revenue--, which means InvestorHappiness--, which means BudgetCuts++ and possibly Jobs--. Not good, right?

That is why Bradley and the other elves are trying to get a mobile site up and running as quickly as possible: review sites live and die on organic search traffic.

Bradley: Google has also started prioritising sites with HTTPS connectivity, which is easier to implement, cheaper, and arguably more useful than a mobile site. Any chance of seeing that next? Pretty please? Wif a cherry on top?

Thanks for the explanation Brad (and Gareth).
SSL should be easy to do, but for clarity on the mobile site issue. Is this an intended permanent fixture or will it be temporary while you implement responsive design on the main site. (Hope for the latter)

Thank you for your post Gareth Hope you're well!

Please keep your feedback coming, we will try our best listen and do what we can!
Essentially the idea is to make a mobile version available for those that prefer that style and for those that don't, there will be an option to continue to use the standard desktop version! How exciting!

When clicking an article link via tappatalk it is redirected to the mobile homepage rather than the article. This applies to any links to bit tech. If Gareth references one of his older articles you are redirected to the mobile homepage instead of the article.

As was mentioned, the request desktop part just doesn't work. Following a link (like say from the forums) to an article doesn't take you to the article but instead to the front page. There's no link to the forums from the front page (how did this one happen?).
