So what is a platform you could get excited about voting for?

I know, we vote for candidates, not platforms, etc etc, but what would you like to see on offer that you could get excited about?

I'd get excited about an election where politicians actually lived in the constituencies they represented, where they understood the issues facing those communities and done more to address them. That would be a massive start for me. The current system allows for the strategic allocation of seats by parties. A case in point would be Doncaster North. Ed Milliband is the elected MP. He was born in London and was given the constituency because it was and is a Labour stronghold. He could have won that seat with his eyes shut. How can someone who hasn't even lived in the constituency they represent really understand that constituency, it's problems and how they can work to resolve them. I'd trust someone who did live in and had history in that constituency much more than someone who was handed it strategically. It makes a mockery of the term representation.

I'd also love to see political parties abolished. Let candidates stand only as independents, standing on their own ideas and tenets. Get rid of strategic voting, used to ensure the party line is kept in order. I think we'd have a much more effective political system that way. Too many MP's towing the same old tired, stale and frankly poor party line, not having the conviction or backbone to stand up for what is right and sensible is half the problem here.

I'm not sure what you mean by platform but i could get behind a party that proposed the removal of something like the NHS from the political sphere, I've had enough of both parties using it as a political football when something like public health should (imo) be non partisan.

Nope, NI as a whole voted to remain, so their Brexit stance doesn't win them any votes.
They support Brexit because they've traditionally cosied up to the conservatives (see: The Troubles) and have some very dodgy financial dealings with them.

Also, it's not Sinn Fein who are refusing to take their seats, it's the DUP who are blocking a government forming because they lost seats in the last election and no longer have the power to veto same-sex marriages, which the public overwhelmingly support, but continue to vote DUP due to the prospect of Irish re-unification.

I would like to see something closer to the Swiss system. Only problem is that Storment is nothing short of useless and I would rather see direct rule which is the exact opposite to that. At this point Nicolás Maduro is looking more preferable to anything we have to offer politician wise.

Vipersgratitude not correct, Sinn Fein have never taken their seats in Westminster (tho have claimed their pay checks). That is a completely separate and not to be confused with the current refusing to make a local government in Storment.
The current collapse is similar to Obama and the republicans, after years of both sides coming to the table both have started making outlandish demands that none will be willing to meet (demanding First minister stand down over RHI) and crying/ refusing to compromise over stupid trivial none issues (Irish language funding). All are non issues compared to setting a budget for the year for example.

while DUP and UUP traditionally side with cons, it doesn't help that Corbin has been an outspoken supporter of IRA/Sinn Fein

I don't. The public sector accounts for 70% of our GDP, so even with squabbling incompetents in charge we do still have a buffer against the harsher Tory austerity measures

The PIP nonesense begs to differ. A simple process of

1. Vote for Benefit reform or keep the current system (and pay the DLA bill from our own budget rather than the bill being footed by Westminster) by a set dead line
2. Hash out details of said reform
3. Vote for implementation of details

Instead parties argued over details and complained how bad a system they were still to craft and shape themselves was. In the end they practically refused to even vote on point one resulting in forced budget adjustments and a hefty DLA bill we now have to pay.

For all their squabbling things move on. Deadlines are in place meaning that decisions can't be delayed indefinitely. Their squabbling is just resulting in penalties and even worse results than any choice they have to make.

CON currently on 27 seats for East Sussex CC - so far a gain of +7 and now have overall control (9 to declare)

It wasn't a simple process of voting, Stormont were forced by the Tories to implement some form of it on the peril of a reduced budget. DLA was never going to survive, and some form of PIP was definitely going to be introduced. They squabbled because the DUP, who held a massive majority at the time, were in the Tory's back pocket, while the other parties knew how bad the Tory's PIP scheme was from all the evidence on the mainland. NI PIP != GB PIP, it's slightly less harsh.

The result for one seat on Northumberland County Council, and thus who had overall control of the council was decided by drawing straws.

Essentially yes, the vote was nothing more than a formality cause it was an illusion of choice but it still had to be done. The reduced budget was after the deadline was extended and the vote wasn't even taken. They could of voted to keep DLA but they still don't even have the vote.

Sinn Fein where the only party preventing the vote. Conservatives essentially put everyone in the position that welfare reform was coming one way or another. SDLP realised this, UUP realised this and Alliance realised this. Sinn Fein held out as they knew the damage it would do to NI short and long term. It had nothing to do with "a DUP majority" or "DUP in the tories back pocket" but Sinn Feins long term plan to slowly erode and destroy NI so that voting for a United Ireland will be better than the hell they've created. Doesn't help that DUP are so utterly stupid, incompetent and predictable that you can easily lead them into destroying themselves (bonus point to Sinn Fein for at least being excellent at playing the game).

Evidence-based government. You want to implement some policy? Well come back once you've run a trial, had a review of the evidence to see if it actually works, and had a 3rd party also run the trial to confirm the number.

Have to run that passed the ethics committee first before you can start any of this, announce your trial, then wait for legal challengers based on equality of opportunity before you can start it
