    Mahlzeit!
After a long time following the other peoples mods i´m finally posting my mod too.

First, i want to introduce myself:
I´m Mischa aka Phyro-Mane , 18 years from western germany.
Modding and Computers are a hobby of mine for a long time now.
This mod will be something special, first because i have money now :D and i make a industrial placement/internship in a local metal-working company and so i can improve my skills very much.

    The idea:
As i am a great fan of Steven Spielbergs Movie "Jurassic Park", i dreamed a long time of making a theme-case.
The title "Side B" is inspired by the Ingen Laboratories on the second island, Isla Sorna, in the movie and book.
The style will be a cool color-scheme, especially black plastic, metal of any kind, and plexiglas.
I intendet do give the case an laboratory- , industrial-like style, so: clean metal, NOT polished, every thing will be mounted with massive bolts and screws, so it looks somehow "heavy".
So, enough "gelaber" as we say in germany, lets show some results:

The Case is based on thise rack-case, intended for PA-equipment eg.
In this outer case will be a normal rackmounable computer case.
i´ll come to that later, not even begun to work on it.
Right now i´m focussed on the outer case.
Every "normal" bolt in the case is replaced by Allen screws und machine screws:
    Just for the look.
This was the whole case nearly at the beginning (just the bolts where replaced and a window was cutted)

as i am working with every material i can get, is used for example V2A stainless steel for the name-sign:
Cuttet with my jigsaw and with plottet characters it looks quite nice, i think:
Here you can see how good the bare metal looks in combination with the black plastic!

This is the Ingen sign, the fictive company in the movie and book:
With a scroll saw the characters where roughly cuttet off a sheet of aluminium and then brought into shape with very small files.
Then glued on a piece of plexiglas and screwed to a "door" of the case.
it is backlighted with 2 ultra-bright green leds:
looks better in reality, my 20-Euro-Cam is not very good in the dark ;)
I also cuttet a hole in the middle of the door to place a lasercut inside:
the lower image shows the whole door.

today i had the opputrunity to laser-cut a frame for my window at my workplace:
    niiiice brushed V2A:
    fits exactly
    [IMG]
The plexiglas is also cuttet with a scroll saw due to its accuracy:
Nachdem das ganze mit der Dekupiersäge deingesägt wurde passt das
    [IMG]
    what should i say?
    the window looks nearly perfect:

and a pic of the whole case with everything done till today:

    so, i´m out for today.
Stay tuned, tomorrow i have some new pics for you!

    Correct would be:
Schön/nett, ich kann es nicht erwarten das fertige Gehäuse zu sehen.
    Bablefish sucks ;)

As you could see on the last Picture, there are yellow "somewhats" above and under the window.
    What is this?
    I tell ya:
These little somewhats are a piece of Plexi.
    And a plotted sticker:
    attached behind the plexi:
the edges of the plexi will be polished, i just did´t have enough time to get the right sanding paper.
The Plexi is "dängelt" on the case :D with m6 machine screws:
Yeah, i know - not straight.
Something went wrong with my mesurements.
But with a little help of my good ol´ friends (the files) it looks much better right now:

As you know, on Isla Sorna live sime niiice reptiles.
And somehow they fount my case very interesting...
The cable was a present from a power-suplly company i worked for this year.
It is usualy used in industrial powersupply components and has a width of nearly 110mm :dremel:
was quite hard to cut it apart...
The mounting-flange was milled with a lathe out of old parts of my bike.
And one tip for everybody who ever wants to work with a lathe:
take absolute attention of your fingers!
or it will end up like this:
somehow my fingers got into the chuck of the machine.
the fingers nearly had the size of a sausage :D
I have to mention that i do every work on the case on my own, including the lathe-work, cutting, drilling, lasercutting, the milling, electronics and so on.
tomorrow i will again have the opportunity to work with the lathe (i still love that machine) to make something nice out of a old gasbottle.
    Stay tuned, pics will follow.

May be a bit late seeing as you've already done the nameplate, but the Isla Sorna installation in JP2 was referred to as "Site B", or as best i can translate to Deustch, "Stelle B". Another translation reads as "Aufstellungsort B".

I'm not sure if your spelling of the word was intentional, I'm just trying to help. :D

well in german it was "anlage b".
    but, damn, your right!
well, the characters on the nameplate are plottet too, so i can remove and replace them.
thanks for your advice, didn´t really notice because i read the book in german, and in this and the movie it is only called "Anlage B"

No problem... I have a hard enough time with English, and it's my native tongue!

I came in here expecting a music-based mod (as in B-sides or unreleased tracks, or the second side of a vinyl album or cassette) and was suprised to see that "Side B" was a JP theme case, which is a much better theme, IMO. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see it painted.

First off, That's a great idea what you're doing with the flight-case.

I also can't wait to see it painted / lighted..... With that window and all.

Already know what colour the inside is going to be?

    Keep up the great work..

    Du hast mich.....

    Painting?
    There will no painting.
I personally don´t like the working with colors, i´m more a fan of "massive" work, i mean metal, plastic and so on.
So there will be NO paintjob, not even on the inside.
    Everything will be bare metal/plastic.
Well, a very little amount of color will be needed, but *shhh*
To early to talk abput ;)
I have to see if i have enough time today, so i can post new pics.
As i mentioned (did i?), i had the opportunity to use the lathe today, and made something quite nice out of an old gas bottle.

I ordered some alu today, and next week i will bring it into shape.
And, as a little hint for you: There will be a animatronic aspect in the case :D
Not easy, but i´m working on it.

So, for today i did some jigsaw-action.
Until now, you only saw the top of the inner case when you took a look in the window, so i cuttet out the window of the inner case:

Because the inner Case was also too long to fit in the Flightcase, it was "shrinked" a bit, also with a jigsaw:

Do you know these water-sparklers? These machines wich you can use to make sparkling water out of normal water.
I found a gasbottle of one of these devices in our cellar.
"hum, this coult fit nicely on the other side of the case..."
as long is i am waiting for my alu bars for the attachment bracking, i did some lathe-action:
i know, the upper part is not perfect, i´m working on it.
for now i only worked 2 weeks on the lathe, and for this short experience i´m quite satisfied with the result.
Yesterday i ordered some items on ebay...

stay tuned what i do with this stuff!

that bottle looks good, especially if you have only used a lathe for 2 weeks. it has taken me at least 3 months of periodic work on it to get things in spec and lookig good. ur using it for a res right?
also, is that amber with a couple bugs in it? i have no clue how this ties into your theme, but i have faith. keep up the good work.

    Yep, its amber.
In the first movie/book, the engeneers of InGen extracted blood from a mosquito that was conserved in a piece of amber to clone the dinosaurs.
Nope, the bottle ain´t gonna be a Res :D

    Update:
Because i´m still waiting for material to arrive (aluminium, plexiglas etc.) i´ve done some small works for today.
first the connection for the bottle, made with metal flex-tube for sanitary purposes, some alu and pneumatic-connectors:
"MCU" stands for main cooling unit.
the connector for the bottleside of the tube will hopefully be mounted monday, because i have to cut off the original flange of the bottle and make a winding for the flange.
As every pressure-handling system my "colling system" needs a pressure-meter.
I found an old one on a broken air-pump.
as there is no real pressure on the system i had to modify it a bit.
so i took some rapid-glue and parts of a broken digital camera and this is the result:
this was a very hard work, everything is nearly to small for my big fingers.
    the instrument will show hdd-activity.
for better visualisation i made a video (hope it works)
    www.abi-looking-for-freedom.com/Dateien_Mischa/uhr.avi
    thats it for today

Nice work so far. Also, you get extra points for grabbing the camera to photograph your injury instead of going to get help! The busted nail looks so gross - much appreciated! I hope it heals well!
