    Hey all,

    Since my last thread on temperatures, my system has changed due to some serious bad luck :( - So I have started a new thread to clear things up and hopefully get some advice from you all.

    Do you think these CPU temps are a little high for an i7 -950 @ 3.6GHz (HT Off)? with 1.216v. The following is a temperature test I ran, and the steps are in chronological order/sequance

    I have now installed 3x Sytche GT 1850s to the triple and re-run my tests - These have been labelled as Test 2 and are written in red below. Overall looks like about a 5c reduction. hmmm

    Test 1 - 13:09 Idle (from cold boot) - 34/35c

    Test 2 - 18:05 Idle (from cold boot) - 35/36c
    ----------------------------------------
    13:19 Idle after 10 mins - 39/40c

    Test 2 - 18:15 Idle after 10 mins - 37/38c
    GPU 30c

    ----------------------------------------
    13:29 Idle after 20mins - 42/43c

    Test 2 - 18:25 Idle after 20 mins - 38/39c
    GPU 30c

    ----------------------------------------
    13:43 idle after 34 mins - 43/44c

    Test 2 - 18:40 Idle after 35 mins - 39/40c
    GPU 30c

    -----------------------------------------
    13:49 Switch on Prime 95 (instantly jumps to) 56/57c

    Test 2 - 18:46 Switch on Prime 95 (instantly jumps to) - 52/53c
    GPU 30c

    ----------------------------------------
    13:54 Prime 95 (after 5mins) 59/60c

    Test 2 - 18:51 Prime 95 (after 5 mins) - 54/55c
    GPU 32c

    ----------------------------------------
    14:04 Prime 95 (after 15mins) 61/62c

    Test 2 - 19:00 Prime 95 (after 15 mins) - 56/57c
    GPU 33c

    ----------------------------------------
    -------------------------------------------
    14:13 Switch on furmark (while leaving Prime 95 running):

    GPU jumps to 59c instantly
    CPU to 64c

    19:07 Switch on furmark (while leaving Prime 95 running):

    Test 2 - GPU jumps to 52c instantly
    CPU to 57/58

    --------------------------------------------
    14:23 after 10mins of Furmark + Prime 95

    CPU = 71/72c
    GPU = 68c

    Test 2 - 19:17 after 10mins of Furmark + Prime 95

    CPU = 64/65
    GPU = 62c

    --------------------------------------------
    14:30 after 17mins of Furmark + Prime 95

    CPU = 75/76c
    GPU = 71c

    Test 2 - 19:25 after 18mins of Furmark + Prime 95

    CPU = 66/67c
    GPU = 62c

    ---------------------------------------------
    14:30 Switch off Furmark + Prime 95

    CPU Instantly drops to 60/61c

    Test 2 - 19:27 Switch of Furmark + Prime 95

    CPU Instantly drops to 52/53
    GPU = 42.8c

    ---------------------------------------------
    14:34 CPU idle 52/53c

    Test 2 - 19:34 CPU Idle - 42/43c
    GPU 34.3c

    ---------------------------------------------

    This is my setup:-

    I7 950 @ 3.6GHz (HT off) Voltage @ 1.216v (in cpuz)
    3x 2gb XMS3
    GA UD5 X58
    GTX 480
    Corsair AX850
    500gb Sammy F3
    TJ07

    Loop:-

    Swiftech MCP655-B pump with EK top >> GPU (EK full cover block) >> CPU (EK Supreme HF, CU) >> Double rad (Thin) >> Dual EK Spin Res >> Triple rad (Thin)

    Fans on the triple are Sycthe Gentle Typhoons 1850s

    Fans on the double are Enermax twisters

    Any thoughts on what the problem could be would be very much appreciated.

    thank you

    Do you think maybe the pump is not man enough for the job?

    I'm not quite sure, it just seams like you have lots of items on one loop.

    I think the rads aren't enough personally, technically you have less rad then me even though your using 2 rads. And that pump is easily enough for it, as your putting less restriction in the loop than mine.

    hes got a 240 and a 360? Surely that would be more than enough? perhaps the waterblock/TIM isnt fully on?

    Thin radiators, depending on fin density and the fans mounted on them; in my experience pull configurations are better suited than push :thumb:

    I'd swap out the 360 for a deep rad as I assume the 240 is the roof mount?

    They're both the think versions, so they have max of half the capacity of a XSPC RX series rad. And that 480 & i7 kick out masses of heat...

    basically what Pete said, and that pump is more than up to the job of what you have, best pump there is in my opinion :)

    Your quite right. The double is in the roof.

    If i swap the triple in the bottom for a thick rad i might have to re-think the location/fitting of my pump.

    TJ07.

    So are we saying to replace the bottom triple with a thick rad, and then perhaps get rid of the double in the roof?

    Or keep the roof rad in?

    Keep the roof rad and change the fan config to pull for that if possible and either a 360 or better still a 480 thick rad in the base would be my advice yes mate :thumb:

    All fans are pulling on both rads.

    Hmm okay lads. I have a look see inside the case and see how i can get things to fit.

    Im tempted to take the roof rad out to improve flow, or do we think all is ok with it in?

    You could do that also but then I'd definitely recommend a thick 480 in the base, a Phobya G-Changer V1.2 480mm Quad Radiator will set you back £76.59 from specialtech.

    http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop...ad-Radiator--G-Changer-480-V12-pid-12194.html

    I recommend both the rad itself (I have 2 x 120's in the base of my Phantom) and specialtech are excellent suppliers :thumb:

    Using a rad that's double the thickness doesn't automatically double the performance, you may lose a few degrees in temps only, check out the performance of a Swiftech MCR at http://skinneelabs.com/triple-radiator-comparison-v2/4/. It would be interesting if you could find out which make and model they are. Older ones won't be as efficient as newer ones though.

    Rads don't normally have a lot of restriction unless it's one of the older Black Ice ones. I ran 2 quad rads, 2 GPU blocks and a CPU block from a 655 (setting 5) without problem.

    Check for blockages/gunk in your loop, the GPU fittings as I mentioned in my PM and whether the pump is operating properly. You'd get better cooling with higher performing fans.

    Edit: While I remember, check out the performance of the BI SR1, that's a 'thin' rad compared to an RX series but has good performance

    Edit2: Stick a thermometer in the res if you can and we can look at water temps to try and get an idea of what's going on.

    Right, im aiming to get a thermometer to test ambient room temps, and water temps today.

    Gpu fittings and thread info, I will re read my pm from elf and try to provide the info.

    Pump wise, I dont think you can adjust the power of this one like some of you seem to be suggesting? I think in the bios its reported to be running at circa 4000 rpm but I will check this and confirm tonight

    The MCP655-B doesn't have speed adjustment; it's hard set to the equivalent setting of "4" on the MCP655. Still an excellent pump though, should be no issue there.
