Is it just me or do they look a bit like the Quadro cards with the silver?

a bit worried about gtx480's heatsink-like casing, looks like it might radiate heat and fry any sound card plugged in right under it.

It'll take a lot of radiated heat to cook a sound card, I wouldn't worry about that too much. If it gets hot enough for that it'll cook itself first.

    Colour me under-whelmed.
This is Tom's doing some back scratching for nvidia in order to get a review card [I'd put money on hand-picked cards going out, like they have done before]. Box pics are not news ffs.
Considering the heat disipation needed by the huge die and the size of that cooler [nvidia recommend a fermi edition case for more than one GPU], this'll be really hot [nearly 300 watt draw], won't overclock very well [clocks and shaders are lower than first advertised], will be expensive for a little more [5-10%] real world performance. You'll get that with a cheaper 58xx card, which overclock very well.
My 5770 CrossfireX setup is looking more and more sensible as price/performance/watt.

300 series are mobile parts, based on G92 (again) I think.

Tom's has always been Pro-nVidia and pro-Intel for as long as I can remember...

Gotta say it sure does look ugly to me, but that's probably XFX's fault. They seem to be under the impression that making your card look like a science fiction nuclear reactor will make it run faster. Here's to wishing for more manufacturers sticking with something more modest.

hexus has some benchmarks up, its considerably more powerful than the 5870, but so much so to warrant such a massive price tag? (£500) I don't think so.

i find it strange that they are comparing to 5870, we all know gtx480 will be faster than 5870. what we don't know is how gtx470 compare to 5870 and 5850 in both price and performance.

And slowly the mist is revealed. Probably the most anticipated nVidia card in a decade is coming and the rumour mill is at maximum capacity.

As usual though, ignore the first benchies. They're usually a load of ass from a mysterious source.

Sounds like someone is making it sound like they've got some benches up their sleeve that show Hexus's benches are bollocks?
