I have a synology nas which I have mapped as a network drive on my PC and netbook. It is scheduled to go into hibernation after 30mins of inactivity which is fine. The problem is that whenever I open windows explorer, say to save something to c:\, the nas comes out of hibernation - regardless of whether I have clicked on the drive or not. Any ideas how I can stop this?

it's because windows explorer looks at network drives as well, the nas will be waking up, using wake on lan.

this is normal behaviour so no you cant, unless you physically turn the nas drive off

If you don't map it as a network drive but instead just used a shortcut to it that should get around that problem since Windows won't automatically try to confirm it's status when you open Explorer.
