My new build (6 months old) has been making a very strange noise since I made it.
The noise, I suspect is the HDD, seems to only really happen when playing games off the hard drive, or streaming films/ tv shows (temp files for Chrome are also stored on this HDD). The noise also occasionally happens when generally browsing documents on the PC. It also seems to stop when the HDD is disconnected.

This is the noise - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByzAuBcUBnNBOVVvZkRyR1h...
The noise happens once at about 4 seconds in.

Does anyone have any opinions on the noise?
Does anyone agree that its the HDD?
Do you think it could be damaging the drive?
Do you think that I could get it replaced under the warranty?

Thanks for any help given, Jordan.

    Your download link doesn't work.

If the noise isn't occurring with the HDD connected then it's almost certainly that. Only way to be sure is to remove it from the case and rest it on the desk whilst still plugged in to be sure.

    What brand is the drive?

Can't listen to the noise whilst I am at work, but if it's like a grinding or clicking noise then it's probably the hard drive.

I will try and listen to the noise when I get home from work though.

It sounds similar to the noise you use to hear when trying to access a floppy disc.

I would if the drive is still under warranty, send it back to where you bought it from as it sounds like it's getting ready ready to die.

I would suggest backing up your data and replacing the drive. Some drives are naturally noisy especially "WD" But if it is screeching then, be prepared
