Well I wnated some right angled moldexes in my pc but really didnt want to dig around the web to find some and then wait a week to put em together. Plus the fact that they would cost me money. So I had an idea. Why not make my own?

Well I started with regular moldexes and drilled holes in them like so.

Then I soldered the wires on back to the pins and ran the wires through the holes.

    The result.

Then on to the next step up the line. I soldered two wires to the old pins. (dont forget to run the wires in the holes b4 soldering em)

    Two plugs.

This is how they look from the back. You could fill the holes with clear or colored silicone if you wish to give it a more finished look.

Then solder on the end plug.

Enjoy and hope this gives my fellow modders a new method to mod their psu's.

    Enjoy

I put this guide to good use in my prototype mp3 machine. However I needed such a tight fit that I ended up grinding down the entire molex plug to make the damn thing fit :D

    Nice guide, man.

nice one - I guess regular PVA glue would fill the gap well (and maybe you could saw it off to make it neat).

Thats a definite posibility. I was actualy thinking about actualy bondoing them and giving the moldexes a quality finish. Well the outer part and not the part that goes in the socket.

    1. It's spelled "Molex"
    2. Molex is a large company that makes hundreds of different connectors. Calling the .200" power connector a "Molex" is like calling all cars "Ford"

2b. Everyone (here at least) calls them Molexes anyway.
2c. Decimal Imperial sizes are stupid.

What they are called is irelevant. The concept is what I wanted to show, and I did.

What size they are or who makes em realy dosent matter as long as they are standard.

Sorry, Ghlargh, your information may be minorly relevant, but is nitpicky to the extreme. Yes Molex makes many connectors, but ask any person talking about what their power connectors are in their computer, and if they have any answer for you it will be "Molex." Even electricians who use them on a regular basis collectively call pin-and-cap style connectors "Molex." It's just one of those branding things that's similar to "scotch tape" or "tupperware"...people don't say "Please pass me the thin, translucent, one-sided tape.." or the "plastic, resealable, reuseable container," followed by its particular dimensions.

And you're from sweden...what the **** are you doing using our stupid-*** imperial measuring system to describe something?! Aren't you guys on metric like the rest of the sane world?

Oh, and nice job, jaguarking...think I may be making some use of this. ;)

I use the metric system exept for parts that are made in imperial measurements, like a 5.25" drive, or a .200" disk drive power connector, wich is what it's called.

Incidentaly, the floppy connector is called .080" disk drive power connector

actualy, the floppy connector is _named_ '0.80" disk drive power connector', but _called_ 'floppy connector'.

Actualy that was the reson I made these. I was itching to solder something and came up with this. Not a big money saver but I take pride in making my own, it was mainly out of boredom.
