So, my dad's just retired, mum got a bathroom and a kitchen and dad's getting £300 for a PC... Fair eh? Anyway, pops does 3 things on the PC. 1. Watch you tube 2. Watch iPlayer 3. Plays world of tanks. He is currently running an E7400 with a mechanical hard drive and a 560 and to be honest, it does exactly what he needs. What he doesn't have is a legit copy of windows, which I have convinced him has to be part of his £300 budget! I'll be putting the GPU and PSU from his existing machine into the new one. So I've come up with the following which would appear to me to be a considerable improvement on his current setup. I've gone for Z97 so he can put a new CPU in there from the early 2015 refresh if he ever wanted to. That's with the 560 and the 550W corsair power unit he already has. Any suggestions? Cheers! Ash
Hey bud! Will look at this firther in a short while, sorry. I would say for a few quid more, it'd probably be better to swap the CPU out for a G3258 given you're going for a Z97 board, so it can be OC'd even if for a short while before your father's rigs CPU is upgraded. Its ~£48 delivered at Amazon or £49.98 at Scan. G3258 @ Amazon G3258 @ Scan Edit: Back again, more to come later! The RAM - is that a 4GB stick? If you'll not be adding more to it, why not go for a Dual Channel kit instead?
Cheers for the replies folks... Um, motherboard drivers currently installing . I bought the skinflint a 2 x 4gb kit Noobs, cheapskate he is! Also, if anyone's looking for a cheapo case, NZXT H230 is pretty decent for £50. Looks pretty cool, nice to build in. The sound proofing foam is a bit of a joke and the HD caddies are a bit flimsy but for £50 I'm impressed.
Hahaha, he's loaded! It's not my fault he won't spend his money. Also - FIFTY BILLION UPDATES, WHY. WHY GOD WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO MUCH.
