    Hello,

I am in need of a new GPU as I think my 570 has given up the ghost (RIP).

Which 970 should I get? Links and reviews welcomed as I have a budget of £250-300 squidly didlies.

I know a new gen is on the horizon but I cannot play games in potato mode using the onboard graphics for much longer.

    Thanks.

I can't recommend the Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core highly enough :thumb:

Probably the Asus GeForce GTX 970 Strix DirectCU II for that budget.

The DirectCU II is a stupendously good cooler coupled with quiet fan operation.

It's an absolute gem of a card (it's also my weapon of choice in my current rig) :thumb:

Cool, quiet, in a lot of instances surpasses a 980 and it also has a five year warranty - what's not to like :D

I've had a 970 Strix - another great card but the Zotac runs cooler and faster.

I've also had hands on with the EVGA 970 F.T.W "Plus Edition" ACX 2.0 - I didn't really rate it any.

Through SCAN the Strix is £275 but includes £20 cashback making it £45 cheaper than the £300 'AMP'. While the 'AMP' is by far the fastest card as bought, I am sure some tinkering can OC almost any 970 to get pretty close so I personally don't think the 'AMP' is worth the extra £45.

The Amp! also has more in the tank, it's the fastest 970 of the three I've had hands on with - The Strix and EVGA SC won't touch it.

Agreed the KFA2 GTX 970 OC Infin8 along with the Amp! and Strix are all great cards :thumb:

But is it really worth the extra £45? How many FPS do you get for that extra clock speed? I am sure it is minimal by the time you OC the other cards.

    Day to day OC -

    A Zotac GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Core with a 6600k @ 4.6GHz = 3DMARK FIRE STRIKE 1.1 score of 11044

And Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0 -

It's fair to say this particular example of a 970 goes like sh*t off a proverbial shovel :D

Plus a 5 year warranty :thumb:

Feel free to show me another 970 that will run the same clock speeds in day to day usage :)

Well the Pascal is about to be launched so I may exercise patience, or see if I can bag a bargain.

    Thanks for all the help.

Wait for Pascal, the GTX 970 is not a good deal anymore, only if you get one around 100 Pounds or something like that.

I'd recommend the GTX 970 Strix as well. If you buy the OC version, ASUS is offering £20 cashback on it at the moment.
