I have a nes I been building for the last month or so, just want to share the progress so far and start a build log here for the rest of my build.I have named it "NES 3.0(or just NES 3) because there was 2 revisions of the console the front loader and the top loader. now its time for mine!haha going to start post a little of my progress every day or two, start from day one until current and then post as progress happens goals for the build are -clean build, no jagged cuts or bad paint ect.. -dedicated GPU -good air flow and cooling -custom paint specs " *=parts i have all ready" -intel g3258* -nes case* -pico psu 160xt* -asrock H97m-itx/ac* -2x gelid silent 7 70mm case fans* - low profile gtx 750ti -8Gb of ram (had some for a bit but sold the system they came out of) -modded xbox control module hope you enjoy! teasers same view as it is now!
You need some in progress pictures or this will be moved to modding. But... as a retro nerd, i'm interested in NES PCs. I'd love to see how you fit all of that into the NES without butchering the console.
I will upload a bunch as soon as I get home from work.I wanted to last night but my thread had to be checked out by a mod since I'm a new member. Also thanks for the heads up.
Here I will share ever thing fitted in the nes except my pico PSU was not in this pic, but after this I would like to post a time line of the progress until I am current.would like to share the complete process of my work for you guys. Hope you enjoy this build. On a side note this is my first custom build ever and I am getting addcited to this! Really haveing fun with it.
ok time to start with the pictures! the begging! just a broken nes cleaned and gutted pentium came in dremeled and flushed out the bottom of the case
I agree ,I'm sure I will do this one justice for all them hacked nes pcs that look like they would fall apart if you even sneezed on them. I will upload more pics when power is restored to my house, damn you snow! Happy Thanksgiving .
Speaking as someone who knows first hand how brittle that NES/SNES era plastic gets, good luck! It's already impressive how claen you've got that bottom section in the last image.
Pic time line continues Lexan motherboard tray made Being epoxied to the case Epoxy finished .made this case so strong it's crazy! Plugging holes ,prepping for fiberglass
finally have power back on at my house, so ill try to do double update today and tomorrow . got all the little holes plugged up and ready for the fiberglass bondo first coat did not look like much but I could tell it was going to be nice at this point. a couple more coats and lots of sanding remember the rca inputs on the side of the nes ? gone now!
second update for today ,will try and do two or three updates tomorrow have some surprises coming next week would like to have this log up to date. Well after all the filler was done my motherboard came in and I could start with the fitment of the fans and mother board so here we go! new motherboard-ASRock H97M-ITX/ac made some quick fan mounts, only will be able to use the bottom one, with both on it held the top of the case up just a hair.I still might mod the top one to make it fit in the case becuase i did like the look of the two of them. motherboard and fans secured and fit in ! Ever thing feels so solid in the case no worry's about moving this guy around.
ok have a little more time today so one more quick update. my pico psu came in the mail this day so I could not wait to test out my gear so I got it all setup ghetto style and had a successful first bios post .The next day I installed windows and did some OC'n of coarse. Got it up to 4.0ghz on the stock cooler did not try to go further as I feel that might be around my sweet spot for wattage and heat .then I proceeded to undervolt until unstable. final result was 4.0ghz at 1.15 vcore,my thermals were at 69-70c under load with the lid on with no intake vents yet"spoiler lol" first post ,IT LIVES! windows installed ghetto rigged
Looks good so far. I hope you'll convert the original NES ports to use with real controllers. I've seen many mods where people just replace the ports with USB and they quite frankly look awful.
I have something special planned for that piece on a side not will update some more some time before the end of the night.
all right after my successful windows install and figured I did not have to RMA anything took every thing apart again. then I begin to make a I/O panel only a hdmi, optical out, and 2 usb inputs will be cut into it. made a beauty panel for hiding wires and motherboard outputs and also made a fan panel to keep the air the fans move separate from the case.
ok now it is time to make a side vent for my fans! its was very scary making to two holes needed to start the vent cut out .but all in all it went very good. lining up the grill with masking tape so the reveals are the same epoxy drying all done came out nice
