Ok, I've just upgraded my CPU block, and I just took apart the old one, and it looks like this:

Any idea how I clean it up?
Once it's clean I'll be selling it cheap if anyone wants an XSPC Delta, although mine has a somewhat ghetto mounting plate for LGA1155 I made out of some aluminium sheet.

Can you remove the rubber? I'd try a bit of soap and water first, you can move to harsher chemicals later.

My first stab would be with something like bicarb of soda and a tooth brush - if you have an electric toothbrush and an old brush tip I expect it'll take no time at all

Give it a scrub then leave in a big splodge of ketchup overnight then scrub again. Worked pretty well for mine.

    Ketchup. Works every time. ;)

Or even Coke, that'll be better as it's a thinner liquid.

Thanks all, I'll give it a go and pick up a cheap toothbrush up tomorrow (of course, I threw one away just a week or two ago :duh:).
Maybe try half with ketchup, and half with coke and see what happens. Hopefully the O ring goes back in ok.

The O-ring will go back in just fine. :)

I'd just do the whole thing with one or the other. Don't forget to thoroughly rinse it afterwards, though.

Ketchup has yet to let me down. It cleans copper beautifully. All you need to do is cover it entirely and leave it for a few hours, or overnight if you're not too impatient (like me!). :)

Just need a couple of buns and some cheese and it's ready :D

In the past what I have done is use my XSPC res pump combo. Set up a mini loop and flushed it with a water/vinegar mix. Same way I flush my rads through. Then give it all a good rinse undert the tap in warm water.

Since you can remove the o-ring I'd try sodium hydroxide, you can find it in Wilko's with other drain cleaners.
It will 100% remove everything, including any aluminium there and also your skin and bones so be careful.
I use it often to clean stainless steel and copper.

The active ingredient in Ketchup is just Lactic Acid. Which is basically whats in white Vinegar. I usually just dump it in a cup and the acid will clean out the metal in a few hours.
