Hi guys, i have the weirdest problem.

The left shift on my desk keyboard closes all of my windows and terminates my windows session, has this happened to anyone?

It does not happen with the built in laptop keyboard.

The keyboard is a Microsoft digital media keyboard.

What should I do?

Sounds like you have a malware on your PC that grab your shift key to end your sessions in Windows. That or you use Auto-HotKey or similar software, and you miss configure to shutdown/log-off your computer when you hit the shift key instead of a combination of keys.

Is it a programmable keyboard? Can you assign functions to certain keys? Check if it has some special keyboard drivers running in the background.

It is not programmable, as far as i know it only has the standard drivers for it. If it is malware then my name is Brian (as in bad luck Brian), this also happened before i formatted the laptop. It only happens on the left shift on the external keyboard, it does not happen on the laptop keyboard, i will re-install the windows keyboard drivers for it and give some feedback.

Go in the laptop BIOS and see if it happens. If it does.. it's something wrong with your laptop, if does nothing, then you are Bad Luck Brian.

Grab a program called aquakeytest and try see what scancode it sends.

Some more info:

It does not happen every time, yesterday it did not happen, today it is happening again.

Does not do anything in the bios.

Closes applications really fast, even without saving, it just closes everything in a hurry.

aquatest says it is a standard shift push

Still need to burn a linux CD or pendrive.

It looks like some kind of malware. What is a good anti malware software that can kill this?

edit:

Current anti-rage solution: physically remove the shift key!!

Maybe there's a glitch inside the driver that drives the usb keyboard. Have you tried new drivers or reinstalled?

Can try to remove your keyboard software/drivers restart, and use another keyboard. Does it still occur?

Also, did you drop any liquid at some point on your keyboard, including any drop of fruit or wtf when you were easting on your keyboard. It might be conducting and when you press the Shift key, it conduct the wrong wires and tells Windows to shutdown your computer.

I will ask a friend for a keyboard to try it out. I have removed the drivers and re-installed them. Still happens.

I have a strict rule about not eating near electronic equipment.

NO, DO NOT RE-INSTALL THEM. Uninstall, restart, and see if it happens.

IIRC the drivers i have are the standard drivers. I will test this out ASAP.
