    Alright a few people have been asking in G69T's project log to make iut eayier to read by moving it to the new threads, but he does not want to, and neither do I. So I am making a web site for it, originaly for me, but now I may have hosting so it is important to have it visually pleasing for others and not just me. So could you please comment on this screen shot of the first page I have made.

    Now I know that there is alot of blank space, but due to the nature of these forums it works with the smaller amount of real estate. However without the sidebars and ads e.t.c there is alot of spare space, so, what could I put there, or how would I fix it?

    First of all, do you have G69T's permission to use his pictures and comments from his log?

    Besides that, you should use white as a background color, it should match the background of the pictures a lot better.

    Looks really cheap and 'thrown toghether' tbh. What is up with the spider? Also with those pictures, I think white should be your background. Also make it so that the pictures are white at the borders..

    The dark blade Blade logo isn't that impressive either.
    Nonetheless, a good effort!

    I think if you could make the logo one of the vector type drawings used in CAD/CNC desgin that'd look pretty sweet.

    again it does look, not great,
    the least you could do is fade the edge's of the images so they fit into the background.

    Firstly, this should be Programming and Development.

    Secondly, if you want a critique, you'd be better posting a link to the actual HTML page rather than a screenshot. There's very few things we can say about the design from a very limited screenshot.

    From what I can see, I would do the following things:
    a. Change the background to white and the text to black.
    b. Remove every instance of the <hr> tag from your code.
    c. Replace the "Dark Blade" image with <h1>Dark Blade</h1>
    d. Replace the "Bit-tech" image with <a href="http://www.bit-tech.net/">bit-tech</a>

    Other than that, it looks perfect.

    Having a black backgound makes the site look cheap imo. Use a white background and an image as a header, perhaps my project log page here will give you an idea of a clean look. You have to make everything blend in, so the bit-tech logo background doesn't blend in with everything else, as well as the spider. If you changed the images and the background colour, the site should look good. Ask the bit-tech staff for some backgroundless bit-tech logos.

    As a few people have said, it looks a bit thrown together with the elements of the page not blending too well, and I think it would benefit from a 'less is more' approach. In other words, it would look quite a bit better if you took the bit-tech header image and the spider out, and kept it simple!

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the opinions guys, it is just thrown togeteher using notepad.
    That screenshot shows all that I had done at that time, I wanted opinions on the basic layout before I did anymore so I didn't have to change as much.
    I have not asked permission "yet" as I am just having this as a personal thing, which may or may not end up on the net.
    The background is now white, and looks alot better.
    <HR> tags gone>
    The logo, I just made a random wordart and saved it, gone now.
    As is the Bit logo and the spider.
    The spider is G69T's Avatar.
    Cant put the page up as I have no webspace.
    but form the top you can see the basic layout, each page consists of one of the update posts and follows exactly as it is in the log.
    will put up a pic later but for now I have to go.
    Thankyou for the advisory remarks.
    I am only going by what I can remember from school,
    wher for advanced people who want to do more, could add a background *gasp*
    A reminder, this is/was going to be for me, so when people come over I could show them Gianluca's Case without having to sift through the pages @ 56K.
    Oh and a link to his first case mod

    I'm pretty sure you'll be aware of this but if you consider putting it on the internet, you'll really need to ask for permission.

    BTW... personally, I would've kept the spider but removed the other images :)

    I would just use plain HTML code without formatting. It'll do the job quite nicely.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    <html>

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-uk" />
    </head>

    <body>

    <h1>Dark Blade by GT69</h1>
    <h4>A concise version of the <a href="http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=76374">original project log</a> on the <a

    href="http://forums.bit-tech.net/">bit-tech forums</a>.</h4>
    <img src="http://forums.bit-tech.net/image.php?u=12938&dateline=1126565297" width="85" height="85" alt="GT69 logo" />

    It'll take you forever to add all the pictures and links. Good luck.

    Okey this is what it is looking like now, with the improvements, the G69T logo is from his site, so I will need permission for that aswell if this goes online.

    Could do with a nicer font maybe, and Maybe try swapping the colours around.
    White Text on Medium Grey looks nice.

    The fonts for "bit-tech" and "by" are different to the ones within the paragraphs. Also the light grey is too light, perhaps darken it and make the background very light grey?

    That looks 100 times better. I actually really like the white and silver/grey look. Nicely improved! :thumb:
