Akasa AK-920 EVO 120 or VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise

Hi guys.

I'm currently deciding between an Akasa AK-920 EVO 120, or VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise for cooling ana thlon 64 x2 (most likely the 4400+). The primary goal for me is low noise (the Akasa seems to be best for that). Has anyone actually used either of these for this processor?

Also, I have a Lian-Li V1000B and Im a little worried about the fins on either HS protruding outside the area of the motherboard. The right hand edge of an ATX mobo (looking from on top) sits right up against a panel on this case making little room around the cpu; so large heatsinks that run over the edge of the mobo wont fit into the case .

I havent managed to find any really comprehensive reviews on either HS, so I'm wondering what opinions and experiences people have.

I know for a fact that an XP-120 will fit on an ASUS A8N-SLI in a V1000, if that's any help.

It mounts useing the holes on the motherboard, much like every other aftermarket hs. I'm sure if you epoxied it to your cpu it might bend the pins when you try to remove it.

heeh... now I remember... it was the thermalright xp120 that had crap mounting which bent the cpu pins when you took it off

Thanks for the info. I decided to get the Akasa AK-920 and received it yesterday. With a bit more research I found out that the fin arrangement that the heatpipes bond to aren't evenly spaced either side above the centre of the cpu socket. looking down on the whole thing (so that the Akasa logo on the copper block reads correctly) the fin arangement that the heatpipes bond to protrude more to the left than they do to the right hand side (if you find a good picture of the heatsink you will see what I'm talking about). Therefore, the correct way to mount this heatsink is so that the least protruding side of the fins is adjacent to the right hand side of the motherboard (when viewing the motherboard so that the expansion slots and input output panel is at the back edge). I have tried the heatsink with an asus A8N32 SLI motherboard and there is loads of room between the right hand edge of the motherboard and the fins when mounted this way.

I haven't had a chance to test the heatsink yet, but when I do I will post to let you guys know just how good it is. I hope my descriptions above aren't too confusing and that this helps anyone who had simillar questions to this one.

Does it fit the A8N32 SLI DELUXE??

I really like the look of the Akasa AK-920. Does the fan and heatsink get in the way of the on board heatpipes of the ASUS A8N32 SLI DELUXE or do they have to be tampered with to install the fan? Thanks in advance,
Slave .
