Oblivion keeps crashing

I just got The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and I have been having some little problems with it, and I just want to see what the community thinks. When I click the desktop icon, it opens the little selection screen, and I click "play game." Then it says "please insert disk", even though the disk is in. It gives me the option to cancel, try again, or continue. Try again causes the same error, but continue plays the game. If the disk isn't in though, the normal "Insert disk" message comes up. Also, every time I close the game after playing it takes a long time to close, then the program crashes. Its very strange. Does anyone else have these problems with their game? Thanks for the feedback!

OBLIVION RULES!

Never had this problem.

Maybe clean the laser or the disc.

Check for scratches and stuff on the disc.

Some games [are n00b and] check for D:\ by default OR the drive you used to install the game. If you have multiple CD/DVD drives, make sure you're using the one you installed with or try D:\

Disable virtual drives or anything like Daemon Tools too, also try running the game by inserting the disk first and starting from the options box that appears when it autoruns.

My optical drives are G and H and oblivion is quite happy with that so i dont think thats the case.

Do you have any virtual drives running? sometimes games arent especially happy with that.

Mine does that, what I put it in my RW instead of my ROM it checks the F frive first and complains about it, I click ok and the game launches.

Had a couple of problems with the game popping up a error sending box when I exit the program, but as it's when I'm exiting anyway I don't care.

I've not had any problems starting it, when exiting it usually errors, seemingly harmlessly (feels to me like its pretty much closed, but the exit command maybe comes slightly too fast before its actually finished so it pops up an error message, even though nothing may be technically wrong)

According to a forum post from the devs, its a memory leak but since its not really causing harm they aren't gonna fix it till they fix the other bugs with some of the quests

It's not the virtual drives. I have some virtual drives such as Daemon and Alcohol, and I never have the please insert disk error. Not even once, maybe you should try putting the disk in first then start the game. Because it takes the drive some time to load up the disk. As for the exit crash, it happens all the time, don't worry about it.

I simply eliminated this problem with a no-cd crack (don't tell anyone )

I need some help guys, PLEAS...
I was playing oblivion yesterday and it suddenly crashed:I saw a bluescreen for less than a second and then my pc rebooted. At first I thought it was just a regular crash that I had a few times before, so I started oblivion again and as soon as I clicked on the "Load" buton I was thrown to the desktop. I tried it a few times always with the same result so I tried to load my last save game with the other button and I got an error message that made me freak:
The savegame your trying to load is version 0.00 the current gameversion is 1.25 some errors may occur. Continue loading? I clicked yes an I got a message that the savegame is damaged
Anybody know how to solve this problem? (I alreaddy reinstalled it...)

Play an older save, if you haven't got one, then restart is the only choice.

I meant try an older save, like load an older save. I have over 190 saves, because of all the quests bugs in this game i save all the time just incase something goes wrong

I cd cracked the game and have no problems with it, well sometimes it crashes when closing. My friend had a problem with it crashing when he looted what he killed but he repaired an ini file and it works great.

I'm guessing that it was writing to the file when it crashed, and farked up the file. I'm guessing you can't do a whole lot to fix it. Especially as savegames aren't straight text, but some freaky encoded crap as most games are (oh, the days of mudding).
