Weird yet annoying message!

EDIT: sry forgot to type what the problem is LOL.

I can't get onto MSN at all, it passes all the tests and yet won't let me log on.

Later, I find out that Zonealarm is the source of the problem, basically it somehow became corrupted and to protect me the user it disabled a port I guess and didn't let IE (at first) and now MSN to run, yet allowing me to connect to the Internet of course.

However it's really getting to me since I can't uninstall or reinstall Zonealarm because I keep getting the following message whatever I try to do:

Code:
Validation failed for C:\windows\system32\vsinit.dll
You are probably missing a necessary root certificate.

Update on the problem.

Whilst trying to reinstall/install, however you want to put it I now get this following message:

Code:
Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service.
Install cannot conitnue without logging into the TrueVector service.

Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector service
and then restart the installer program.

This is a very common problem that I've seen, and a microsoft article can provide you with information on fixing it. (look for the link detailing how to manually and completely uninstall zonealarm)

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291793

I had to do this to my girlfriends computer once, and I did end up having to use the search tool in regedit for all references to zonealarm.........be sure to export your registry before you do that if you're not confident.

It is my personal opinion that the scenario is a result of zonealarms really piss-poor job of the firewall program trying to "protect itself".

She bought a new router, and no longer needs a software based firewall now.

OMG, thanks alot you're a life saver I was just considering whether or not to reformat my computer this morning seeing as there was little to no supplies and all the searches on Google i've done for peope with the same problem led me to nowhere.

I hope this works, thanks anyways.
