PCs? PCS!? WE DONT NEED NO STINKIN' PCS!

Seems a good idea- I can't see myself using the internet too much on the Wii but it's nice to see that they went with the best.

This is something I'm waiting for Microsoft to do on the 360. I don't see casual web browsing done on a console but I can see the usefullness of have a site such as GameFAQs loaded up and being able to pause the game and switch over really quick if you get stuck in an important area. I can see links already built in for GameFAQs now as it's pretty much the defacto walkthrough and gaming FAQ site.

Wonder how useful it will be seeing as the Wii is sans-HD?

Definately a good addition, if only just for having a quick browse of bit-tech before heading off to work.

Great stuff, I've been kinda attracted to the Wii as it is, but the fact that it has the best browser on it, that just ramps up the attraction.

While having web on teh Wii would be good, on a SD tv it will look crap just like the DC web broswer looked. You also have to factor in a lot of websites do not like the SD TV res.

However if the Wii is HD then it should be ok. With regards to the 360 not having it, I would not be suprised when IE7 launches this summer if a 360 version appears

I use Opera on my PC so this is good news for me. They're also making Opera for the DS.

I don't see that it will be too much of a problem on a SD TV. If you can fit the internet on a phone, why not on a TV. I doubt it will be designed to replace your computer for the internet, but more likely to access Nintendo websites for online gaming tips, reviews, videos, online stats etc.

Also I still think it remains to be seen what resolution the Wii can output. It hasn't got an HDMI socket so it can't be called HD, but it could still output similar resolutions over component, only without the copy protection etc. The "cheap" PS3 will only have component as well.

You don't need HDMI to have HD resolutions. Component cables can output HD just fine but you'll see a slight blurriness due to the digital>analogue>digital converion happening.

The Wii will output at 480p which, at one point, was considered HD but pales in comparison to 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

Sounds good to me...aren't there plans for OperaDS too?

Can't see any issues with TV res either - there'll probably be some kind of scaling/zooming feature built into the browser (a la Opera Mobile).

IIRC it has 512 mb solid state flash drive. Which no doubt the modders will find a way to upgrade.

Yep, plug in an SD card or an external USB HDD may be possible.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant HD as in 'High Definition' not hard drive.

Ahh, gotcha. I'm not worried about high definition myself, as I won't be adopting it any time soon and there's not too many examples of it available in Aus anyhow.
