Bit disappointing really.
I - and anyone else here - could very easily build a much better system for 4 grand.

Why on earth would anyone in the UK pay that sort of money when you can get this:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...ystems_43.html

Ultima Extreme SLi 7900 GTX" AMD Athlon 64 FX60 Dual DDR Silent PhysX Enabled System (FS-024-OK)
If you are looking for the ultimate AMD box then look no further than the Ultima Extreme SLi AMD Athlon 64 FX60 Dual Core. This system is further future proofed with the addition of a BFG Ageia PhysX accelerator card which improves the realism of games. Supplied pre-built it has an impressive specification to say the least :-

- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX60 (Socket 939) CPU
- AMD Approved cooler
- Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
- Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3500LL Pro TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit
- 2 x 150GB Western Digital Raptor 16MB Cache SATA Hard Drive (RAID 0 Configured)
- Black Floppy Drive
- 2 x NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB GDDR3 Graphics Cards (SLi Configured)
- BFG Ageia PhysX Accelerator card future proofing this system for PhysX enabled games!!!!
- Plextor PX-755 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Sound Card
- Akasa Eclipse 62 Case
- FSP Sparkle FX700-GLN Epsilon 700W ATX2.0 PSU
- Windows XP Professional pre-installed with License and CD supplied

@ £3261

Alienware is overhyped, overpriced nonsense. If you are crazy enough to spend £3-4k on a Pc, at least get the fastest.

The sooner Alienware is put out of buisness, the better, because they bring nothing to the party these days except an over inflated ego.

for that price youd expect them to include the cream of the crop hardware-wise. If only i had that much money to blow at once on a system

the case is like my chieftec but with a diferent front, it is great and spacious and resistent but it is in steel and is fu**ing heavy, it could use a change to ALU, my case has front usbs firewire and audio connections, i love my case and i dont mind the weight because i am stong enough to carry it and most of the time on my desk. the only thing i need is a TFT so i dont have to haul my big fat CRT to lans.

alienware needs a new case or needs to seriously update it, the chieftec design would be great if made from ALU.

If was buying a whole system i'd personally get one from Scan - better pricing and better hardware.

Alienware is imo overpriced with a spec that is always on the verge of being outdated whereas many others system sellers attempt to be a bit innovative with qual sli or overclocked with wc Alienware seem to be stuck in there own bubble.

Yah, Alienware, give us some flashy new goodness in the form of a sweet sweet case without the enormous plastic epidermis. Where's the corporate email? I wanna yell at some people!

My two cents about Alienware is that they are an old dog who can't learn new tricks. The first time I looked at them a few years back it was the same kind of overpriced stuff. If anyone is laying down 3-4 grand for a system like this (which will no dout happen) then they could just as easily get away with murder.
Hell people on the forums could make a cheep case and then cram some parts in and make just as much as Alienware.

The problem is they don't offer us anything over the competitors, nothing flashy, just a name and a tiny Alien head on their products.
I'd rate it two thumbs down.

A bit dissapointed like everyone else here I imagine. At that price its just not worth it.

I have said this before and will repeat it - As far as pre-builds go "I would take Voodoo Pc's over Alienware any day of the week"! Not that anyone cares of course but just look at them:

The Pink one would really compliment Will's new Vaja handbag

[IMG][/IMG]

Or of course something for the non man-bag totting crowd

[IMG][/IMG]

Their Omen a121X comes in at £2600....nice!

Can bit-tech get their hands on one of these?

Yer an alloy case would be sweet, and a alloy case with a black mat finish would look even better, it would secure Alienware in the market, once again, as a manufacturer of high end - designer cases that become icons.

I acually just recently bought one of these (as crazy as it is) and im not entirely happy with it. it has 4gb RAM on 1gb sticks and i bought the fatal1ty soundcard seperatly and installed it myself. It was great at first but it just locks on more or less every game i play with SLI enabled forcing me to hard reset - though this may be a problem with the drivers. From what i've seen here it looks as if ive been seriously done out of money.

Deja vu.... I seem to see the same things in these thread each time a Alienware is released. I've always stated that I think they're a rip off tbh, and this one is more of the same. The last offering used the same 4x 512 memory setup too. WHy are they doing that?? This time, the price is ludicrous.

I dont have a problem with the X-fi choice, as they're all the bloody same anyway. If you look at the feature list between all 4 X-Fi models, and there's not really a fantastic amount of difference - technically, there's actually none apart from the amount of ugly drive bay mounted rubbish you get with it.

If I was in the market for a high end, pre-built rig, I'd go with Voodoo, or the Scan system anyday.

I'll not comment on the case, as it's a subjective thing - however, design aside, it's still plastic and steel, which for a high end rig, and compared with what you get from Voodoo is just a joke.

Still using Patriot RAM as well. Nothing really WRONG with that (other than the 4x512) but for that money, why not OCZ or Corsair, or Mushkin?

There's always the after sales support which makes the higher price worthwhile, but that's starting to be difficult to justify now. £3700!!! If I can build my rig for less than half of that by buying my parts at retail prices, how can they justify it? I could put 2x 7900s in here, and it would still be at least £1000 less to build.

There would be at least some saving grace if it outperformed everything else, but it can't even manage that.

6/10, must try harder.

Alienware,the expensive under achiever

I was reading your posts about alienware and I wish I would have read them before I spent &3,200.00 on my over priced 7900 paperwait.I think people should know this company is a rip off and liars.I had service reps lie to me on numerouse occasions ie "my manager is in a meeting right now and you can't talk to him".I would hang up and call right back only to hear "no there are no managers here right now they all went home for the day."That was just the beginning.Alienware kept giving me the run around on what build phase it was in and totally missed the proposed ship date.A real big oops considering I'm in the service and wanted it for deployment.Needless to say I did'nt get it in time wich meant my wife, who lives at a differant address(wanted to stay close to family while Im deployed) had to deal with them.Alienware was told if I did'nt recieve the laptop by a certain date they would have to ship it to her. They did'nt.My poor wife spent HOURS on the phone with alienware and fedex trying to retrieve the computer.Of coarse both companies played the "it's not our problem it's the other companies fault" game for a few days.MY wife finally got the laptop and put it up until my return.Three months later I came home on emergency leave and wanted to check out my new computer. My wife being computer illiterate never opened the box.BRAND NEW out of the box the computer could not do what was advertized.F.E.A.R. and WORLD OF WARCRAFT would lock up and could'nt run at half the speed it should have.Me being stupid purchased a three year warrenty with the laptop.Instead of letting me return the dung pile and get it fixed or give me my money back, the ever so intelligant non english speaking technicians made me spend DAYS on the phone with them to "trouble shoot my brand new system."The last thing alienware could come up with was my copy of windows was corrupted and needed to be reloaded. For the additional 300 bucks I should'nt have had to do anything.Needless to say when I asked them why they would send me a defective computer and demanded they take it back I was hung up on,but I was used to that because whenever you press one of the reps for info or catch them in a lie they hang up on you.To top it all off instead of giveing me a free upgrade for the huge inconveniance and lies ,I got amazon.com coupons.Nice way to support your troops alienware! The laptop I ordered came with dual video cards (sli) ,1 gig of ram,17 inch wide screen,2.0 gig turion and a 7200 rpm 80 gig hard drive.I have a desktop I built 2 years ago for $1,500.00 that eats my alienware for lunch. If I had the money and was'nt in Iraq right now I would sue them out of business. If I could do it all over I would have gone with a voodoo, monarch or a widow laptop. Thanks for your time, a VERY ANGRY customer
