light gun games on projector
Hi!
I´m not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I´ll ask it anyway. I´m just wondering is it possible to play light gun games on a projector? |

Most light guns rely on reflections from the screen in order to work. I don't *think* its possible to use one on a projector as they aren't very reflective.
You can try, but see if you can borrow one first. |

I remember light guns working like this:
When the trigger is depressed, the screen goes blank except for the area that is the target. The light gun then looks to see if the area is the colour it should be. This colour determines the hit or miss, so to speak. Following that logic it should work fine with a projector, as long as the luminoscity of the screen is ok. |

The more recent light guns need to have a constant pointer on the screen as to where they are pointing, think virtua cop.
To acheive this they are synced up with the refresh of the screen so that they know where on the screen they are pointing. They do NOT work on any screen that is not refreshed a-la crt, this includes LCD, Plasma and unfortunatly projectors. There is a work around as adopted by the Nintendo Wii and the light gun that you can buy from lik-sang. This has receivers that you put on either side of your tv and they locate the gun. |

Ok, it´s seems I´m getting alot of different answers. So where can I read about this on the net? I´ve searched every where but have´nt found anything concerning my question. So should I believe that the conclusion is that I cant play light gun games on a projector?
cheers! |

wikipedia would be my first suggestion
the conclusion would depend on what type of light gun it is, and which method it uses to determine where its aimed. chances are if you tell us the model and some other details about the light gun someone will know ;-) |

Well the thing is, it´s not working. Whenever I get to the part, before the game, where you are supposed to shoot at the screen to lock the aim for the gun, nothing happens. I´m not able to shoot, all I hear is a gunshot but nothing actually happens. Sure the screen flashes but that´s about it. I´m pretty sure I´m missing a cable or have done something wrong with the cables. So therefor I´m asking you guys if you know anything, what to do or so on.

Mate, to be honest it is pretty hard to mess up the installation of the gun, so most likely it doesn't work with projectors.

the gcon2 is connected to the video signal... and I'm fairly sure it relies on sync/refresh.. and if so it won't work. (I think)

I thought some of the light guns flashed a white screen, and it timed how long till the gun saw the flash (relying on the scanning of a CRT) Still, not a way that work with a projector.
