Awesome review

I've said it once but I'll say it countless times, the reviews on bit-tech.net are always amazing and in the past month have been tailor made to my needs as I've chosen a new computer! The initial GeForce 7950GX2 review highlighted the essential point that one of these would be as fast as a pair of 7900GTs in SLi which was the biggest question in my mind at the time, and the review of the Dell 2407 WFP reassured my purchase which is on its way right now I love you guys!!!!

That's impressively fast - I thought it was more of a gimmick than anything, but it's turning out to be quite a nice piece of kit. Good review; I like the clickable pics too

The review surprised me quite a bit to be honest. I expected more performance, considering the fact that it's two cards bolted together, and the cost. Were I buying a high end card I'd probably go for the 1900XT or XTX due to the higher image quality, HDR+AA, and cost.

Great review though. I loved the fact that it was split into a bit for those of us with CRT's and then for those weirdo's who use silly cold LCD's to get their kicks. That was great.

Awesome write-up!

I still think the 7950GX2 is an excellent value since alot of them are $100 (don't know how much that translates in Euros) more than a 7900GTX. If decide to go high-end, then this is the card for me .

with the only gameplay advantage that the XFX 570M XXX Edition card having being the additional quality benefits from enabling transparency supersampling.
Why isnt listed under "benifits" then ...., and why does another card have a benifit, which isnt mentioned

Who would have thought that you would be able to play Half-Life 2: Episode One at 1600x1200 with 8xAA enabled? Both GeForce 7950 GX2 speed grades were playable with 8xAA enabled
I also dont understand this, i thought the GX2 was more powerful then the x1900xt, and yet i could play with everything on max (inc reflect all) and not forgetting 8xAA and 16xAF and at the lowest only ever saw 50fps, and generally floating at about the 70fps range getting up to over 100 at some points

other then that, nice review

Uhh, ohh... for some reason, the table on page 9 was the wrong one (the 1920x1200 table had crept in there - probably me copying image code) - refresh now and it is corrected. I will have a quick check through now. Thanks for spotting - can't believe I missed that.

Great article. Will these cards support directX 10 when suitable drivers become available or will new hardware be required for that?

Well written and very informative as usual Tim

If you get a minute could you let me have the measurement between the two cards i.e. from the bottom of the top card to the top of the bottom card (if that makes sense

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately, they will not support DirectX10. However, there will be very few DX10 games coming out for a while yet - it depends on how long your average video card life cycle is. If you're one that upgrades every six months, I think that it is fair to say that GeForce 7950 GX2 will last out that time.

If you're more of a 12-to-18 month upgrader, you might be better holding on for a while.

There are some SMT components, so I would say that you're looking more like 15mm clearance if you take the GPU being raised from the PCB into account.

If I understand correctly, DirectX10 will emulate (or include), DX9, so most if not all current cards will support DX10 (in the sense that it will work) , although won't take advantage of any new graphical effects DX10 brings. I mean, you won't see any DX10 stuff in, say, Crysis with a 7950 and DX10, but it will work flawlesly if you have a 7950 and Windows Vista. I guess you are probably saying the same, but it read like your shiny new 7950 would't work at all with Vista and DX10.

Or have I misunderstood all this DX10 news?
