As long as the kit is still good, and the new product naming continues some form of continuity, I am fine with it. What will piss me off, is a name and product moniker change to some thing conviluted and confusing. I dont like this merger but as long as AMD dosent rock the boat too much it will be fine.

The buyout of ATI was good for AMD, but this decision is not.

EVERYBODY (even my mom) knows the ATI brandname.

It wont really make much of a difference really but ATI has a good name for itself though.

huh, how are we going to know the difference between a CPU and a GFX card now o.O

surprised ATI would allow this, takeovers generally mean firing the managers / execs of the company that is being taken over ...

This doesn't bother me. Makes it more simplified. Can't wait until AMD bring out those DirectX 10 graphics cards, LOL.

The ATi brand feels dated to me.

Peronally, I prefer ATi to AMD - it won't feel right buying a graphics card and CPU from one company. In fact, if you combine them all together, you'll have a full AMD architecture. And that's a scary thought.

The big problem with this is that people will lose the brand identity that they have with ATi (if they haven't seen the stories about the takeover), and go with the green boys (or indeed the blue boys at Intel once they get up to speed perhaps).

For the ones who dont know, AMD is (much) bigger than ATI (and nVidia for that matter). And the ones who do, They still know is ATI underneath.
So quite good business move. Also save on marketing cost.

We all know how big AMD and ATi and nVidia are. What I'm saying is that when Joe Bloggs goes to buy a new graphics card next year and sees only AMD and nVidia as options, he'll go for nVidia, assuming that AMD are new kids on the block, like S3's Chrome series - who's bought one of those?

This wont bother me in the slightest, always been an Nvidia man, but, with AMD at the helm, i might check out AMD GPU'S, still, i want a 7950GX2

I gotta say, as far as PC stuff goes, I'm seriously concerned about what's happening here. While in itself it's not the end of the world, the repercusions this may have on the tech world, and the mergers or takeovers it may lead to. It's so shaken up, lot's of opertunities for annoying things to happen

Ahahaha! ATI, on GREEN PCBS!

I personally see no problem with it all. Intel changed their classic logo. Macromedia's stuff is now called "Adobe Flash" "Adobe Dreamweaver" etc.

But I don't like the idea that there will only be one big name in discreet graphics, as I have associated AMD with processors, and processors.
