About the notebook, I personally don't like te looks, but it's the inside that counts. Shame that AMD hasn't really catched up on Intel on the mobile market on the field of power usage. But I lack a comparison with a similar Pentium M / Mobile Core Duo.

it should have been S2xx series. The reason I compare to the S250 is because that is a laptop I've used for a long time, so I know most of the nooks and crannies. Most of the S2xx series looks the same, but the S271 has some refinements.
I don't have a Pentium M/Core Duo laptop to directly compare it to - there are some notebooks in the office that cost nearly double the price, but that wouldn't really be a fair comparison.

Is this basically the same chassis as the Medion S series?

I have to admit to owning a Medion Sim2000 and it looks identical to the MSI minus some cosmetic changes. This is intersting because the Medions are usually significantly cheaper and therefore would make this a very cheap notebook with a good spec.
Edit: Infact i notice that on the medion website they have a very similar spec model (512mb ram and a 60gb Hd) for £420 which is very resonable considering it half the price Edit: Infact thats a real bargin. Wonder if anyone i know needs one for uni.

The one on the medion site is only a single core Turion refurb, so it's going to have an attractive price. However, it's worth noting that it has a single core chip, less memory and a smaller hard drive too. The MSI tested here uses a dual core Turion.
With that said though, there's no denying that it's a damn good price though.

Ahhh i had missed the fact that the Medion one was single core . I dumped my desktop about 4 months ago when i got my new notebook because the 12" screen meant i could take it absolutly everywhere and as long as i backed up the data every day i dont stand to lose anything and always have a PC available to me. Its amazing what a 3"difference of screen makes

When you near enough say the X2 lets it down, is it the same in all the other notebooks like the Asus AT6c?

I've been spending quite a bit of time discussing this with the TR guys in the office, who review a hell of a lot notebooks. Looking back through some of their mobile mark results, Turions seem to show the same pattern over the DVD/General Use battery life tests.

I have purchase this laptop as a barebones install the tl-56 and 2gb ram. So far it has been very good. I have question about the battery test was the driver for the Turion installed? When i first installed windows with out the driver the chip did not change power states it stayed at 1.8Ghz until the driver was installed then drop to 800mhz durring idle rtimes and low cpu usage times such as word processing. I have yet to run the battery down completely on mine

Yes, Cool n Quiet was definitely working - I used the machine as my own laptop for a couple of weeks before I even started testing it.
