Woot! Go Sandisk!

Although imo, the designer label is the only reason you'd buy an iPod.

You might want to add a link to the review you featured a while ago for those that might have missed it.

Man, now that these mini mp3 players are almost catching up to the capacity I need to fit all my music on, it's becoming tempting to get one of these.

BUT HOW DOES IT SOUND !!!

that's the important question <_< that's the biggest reason not to buy an ipod for crying out loud, the price being #2 (or joint #1)

I have the 6GB, and would report mixed opinions. It has a great feature set, and also there is a micro sd expansion slot in the side - 1GB more of storage for £25 on ebay. It is cheap, and I like it for that. The menus are pretty, and well featured, fast etc.

Music quality:
There is distinct audible machine noise at the begining of each song, although this only lasts for a few seconds. I am using Shure e3gs, so probably hear it more....as I type my prodigal flatmate has given me a link to the new firmware... http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=1847 "Popping is almost gone, it is heard when switching tracks."

The machine noise has not distracted me significantly though, as it is only a problem for a second or two, and not loud.

It does NOT currrently like wmp11, and under MTP in wmp10 I have failed completely to load playlists to the device, despite spending several hours, and various different MTP compatible media players. UMS is available and works fine.

If you use the expandible storage, be aware that the player will spend approx 15seconds checking what is on it in order to sync it into the media list every time the player starts. I use that time to arrange my headphones.

Overall I'm still pleased with my purchase, but the new 8GB is annoying...

It's MTP or UMS compatible. Doesn't ship with it's own software, other than for video/photo conversion. i.e. drag and drop or MTP player of your choice (wmp, mediamonkey, winamp etc.)

If you want more info on these, BT did a review of them a while back, do a search.

I had a Nano but busted the screen. The one thing I really liked about iTunes is the podcasts. Is there anything as good for podcasts out there? I'm really tempted by this player but want to keep my podcasts.

Can you not just get an RSS podcast feeder?
Podcasts are just audio files anyway, nothing special about them.

they'll work in any player.

iTunes has a nice way to find and subscribe to podcasts. I also found that another service I tried only listed the newest version so if I missed a day I missed the podcast (iTunes keeps them longer). I haven't had a huge amount of time to look at all the alternatives though.
