90sec advert, one at a time.

You have to revisit and rewatch the adverts after a certain period of time before the file locks down.

I'll keep to my buying methods thankyou.

<A88> will become famous soon enough
Meh, might use it for the odd track but it won't stop me from buying CDs/Vinyl...I'd still much rather have hard copies of my music to make it seem worth my money.

Purdue University has been offering something like this for a while now called Cdigix. It's crap. Your computer has to connect to the internet to verify the authenticity of the song before you can play it. And you can't transfer it to any other device.

What are you going to choose?

Free, but with DRM, advertising and limited ipod capability.
Free and unrestricted via the usual illegal methods.

Hmmm...

You know that the firefox extension is coming for that. Which would rather defeat the purpose since the artists couldn't really get paid, but that's life for you.

One question: DRM or straight MP3? I wasn't quite sure from the summary.

Still, I think I'd be willing to force myself to check my email or other sites every short while so that I can download music for free and somehow still reward the artists. Hell, I'd even respond to ads if I'm well targeted.

There's an alternative to all this, I haven't played mp3s or much else since I found pandora.com. It's always open on one of my firefox tabs so it's almost always on. And with 100 channels you can make for yourself, it's a pretty good deal

A couple of downsides though, it doesn't always play what you'd like it to, even if you've "trained" it pretty well. The amount of songs you can fast forward is limited, but you can always change channels. Well it's free and has no advertisments, so that's my choice anyways.

That was a bit off-topic, but I wouldn't want a free service which would be full of irritating adverts. I'd rather buy my mp3s from iTunes or something similar to that. Although the best option would probably to buy the original cd and then rip the songs yourself...

Just my 10 cents, my 2 cents is free

Janne

1) At one time I chose to buy entire TV series I like rather than pay for cable & have to wait until they come on & then sit through commercials (I have renters who wanted cable so I use that & MCE now but I still buy & watch series on DVD).

2) Doesn't most adware also have a paid version?

3) Satellite radio...

My point is that we seem to be moving away from traditional distribution methods (& that's good) but I don't think this one will work.

Will the ads be featured before a download, on the site, or would it be part of the actual song?

The method will be:

1. Select a song.

2. Watch the advert

3. Download the song.

4. After a period of time, rewatch an advert.

I belive its 1 advert = 1 song

RTT summed it up, so I don't really have any need to.

Thing is, music lovers already have things pretty damn good. Untill they're offered something equally good or better few have any incentive to switch away from the current methods of mass music collecting.
