ozstrike has a spectacular aura aboutozstrike has a spectacular aura about
"read on to found out what it means."
Also, there doesn't appear to be a link to this thread in the story.
I don't think the title is as catchy as Bully. Probbly won't buy the game anyway, I thought GTA:SA was poor.

I'd find it amusing if this Jack Thompson bloke was in the game, as something you have to beat up! .

Actually, beating people up is not the focus of this game.

I think it should be a bonus level.

I think 'Bullworth Academy' would have been better.

Actually, did they just go for a name which wouldn't need translating in foreign markets? What name would they have used elsewhere previously?

Edit: Rockstar have confirmed that this name change is only for the non-US market. I'm surprised, esp that it's not also for here in the UK too.

I reckon JackThompson won't see this as a victory on his part. He may claim he doesn't like the implications of a game named Bully and therefore want the name changed but in truth he is so blinded by the implications of a game previously named Bully that he won't be happy unless the game is pulled off the shelves.

And this isn't the first game with a Latin title. Has everyone completely forgotten about Deus Ex? (see the last Crysis thread)

It means "I think therefore I am". For some reason people feel the need to express the phrase in Latin though Descartes would of course originally have written it in French.

On the contrary, at the time Descartes was really rocking the boat by writing his Discourse on Method in a vulgar language (ie. not Latin). It wasn't until a century later (if I've got my chronology right) that books (being written for the aristocracy and elite since the commoners were largely illiterate) were commonly written in languages other than Latin. Translating the bible was a massive issue around the same time.
Anywho, back to the Discourse, I had to read an English translation a couple of years ago, and Descarte used the Latin, and then translates it into English (via French and the people that translated the book). I presume that they preserved the Latin from the origional text.

Isn't it "Cognito ergo sum?" though?

Nope. Also, according to wikipedia the phrase "I think therefore I am" was originally expressed in French in Descartes's Discourse on Method, and only later was it translated into Latin. Thankfully "Cogito Ergo Sum" rolls off the tongue more easily than "Je pense, donc je suis".

Deus Ex Machina is one of my favourite Latin phrases... and a get-out clause for any writer.
