hmm, seems a little pointless, network admins won't touch these until they are proven, people in the meantime can find which holes the patches are plugging and exploit them

Im with DTM2000, in a corp environment you cant get away installing a patch from a 3rd party esp when there are realase a patch for a closed bit of software such as IE.
A good sysadmin will know of the flaws exposed and if they system is setup correctly in throey be able to patch the hole with firewall rules or group police IE rules Kimbie |

I agree that I can't see what kind of people would benefit from this ZERT group. Their main disadvantage is the lack of being able to automatically update IE. People who are concerned about browser security are likely to be already using Firefox or Opera. People such as big companies who force their employees to use IE are unlikely to endorse the use of unofficial patches and even if they did they are unlikely to go to the trouble of updating all their machines manually instead of waiting for the official patch to be automatically installed.
The only people I can think that would benefit from this are those that actually prefer IE over Firefox or Opera, or, those who somehow have enough concern about their browser security to have heard about these unofficial patches without hearing about the alternative browsers we have available. Somehow I think people from either of these two categories are very very few.

Back in the bad old days some MS patches gave a lot of people unforeseen problems; one for Office 2k (SP2 IIRC) was a lulu
. I used to always check the newsgroups for adverse comments before installing anything. Exactly the same will happen with these guys. We'll wait for some other muggins to be guinea-pig. But tbh I can't see there being many prepared to volunteer.A recent survey found almost half the UK population don't even have recent virus defs, only 10% have a spam-stopper; those folk ain't going to know these guys exist.

my concern would be the 3rd party patches messing up things for the official patches when those finally come out. (but then again, I've been using FF since before it was FF)

Well if MS wont fix it when leaks are found then someone has to do it. This will just show up MS and embarrass them as they are too slow and lazy to fix problems they created and someone else out there has taken it on them selves to help them out.
