Hmm, so if I type in "Iraq has WMDs" into Google, it'll tell me I'm wrong?

Politicians rarely give bare-faced lies during speeches and if they do they can usually blame ignorance. If they want to lie they use non-committal phrases as they know that otherwise they'll receive more than their usual dose of tabloid derision the next day. Whether people use Google as polititians speak or afterwards has little significance.

This is nothing more than another attempt by Google at marketing new ways to use their services.

Slight problem...

Once politicians figure this out, they'll have a whole new branch to their PR team -- a group of people who use a form of 'google-bombing' to make their lies seem true with a quick search.

Every speech/debate topic will be planned out long enough in advance for this team to go to work and set up a bunch of linked sites corroborating whatever it is the politician wants to say.

And once the politicians get control of the internets like that, we're all doomed!

After all, who can forget the great speech by US Senator Stevens on those clogged tubes?
YTMND still gets sites about that.

In a perfect world they wouldnt lie, but if they tried something like that in the real world they would loose for sure. I think politics in general tends to be a total mess.

The only problem is that most people are stupid, and stupid people tend not to check facts. In fact, most of the stupid people that are voting don't vote by policy or even party, but by appearance. FFS, if you can't vote at the VERY least by party (something I find very disagreeable and the cause of numerous problems), you should NOT be allowed to vote. Or reproduce.

If only more of the voting populace was smart. Oh well.

Man...I heard that. How is the world to get better if there's no thought behind a vote? How is the species supposed to advance if the stupid are allowed to reproduce with wild abandon? Perhaps, somebody'll say "without the stupid, you'd have nobody to do the yucky jobs" -- I say, if the stupid weren't getting in the way, we'd have plenty of robots to do those jobs by now.

And while we're on the subject of voting: anybody else think the whole "electoral college" business for US presidential elections is stupid? Because of the electoral college, the guy who gets the most real votes has a chance of losing the election. Because of the electoral college, there's barely any campaigning in states where the vote always favors a certain party (and, likewise, very little care for making policy to benefit those states). Because of the electoral college, your vote doesn't really count if you vote for (a) the candidate who doesn't win your state, or (b) the winner, but he's already got more than 50.01% of the votes. Because of the electoral voting system, third parties stand even less of a chance.

And while I'm at it...what's with having all the primaries for different states at different times...essentially, New Hampshire's primary decides which candidates will make it to California's primary (along with a bunch of other states). So the staggered system of primary elections makes it so people in most states have less choice, and as a result their votes really do count for less.
