Loved the Ceasar series, but I have no chance of playing this on my university supplied machine. If Nvidia makes the g80 for lappy's in buyin 1

I used to love ceaser 3 even though I dislike almost all other city games. If they get the bugs roned out this should be good

M'kay, but when do we get Spore ??
No kidding, I'm really expecting this one. Hope Bit Tech will be able to get a pre release version before everyone else...

I wasn't all that keen on the demo really, not that it wasn't bad, but it just didn't really do anything for me, and I love these kind of games.

eh? it's called caesar IV... that's caesar #4. because there have been three games before this in the series. the first one was not long after doom if i remember right. that makes it anything but a new genre.

Yes, but theres not been one for a very long time, you could've called this a dead genre, but recently theres been a ton of games released.

Being playing since friday, must admit to bveing a bit underwhelmed. Tilted windmills earlier Children of the Nile was better imo, scrolling & zoom were better, with more gameplay.

I've played it for a few hours, its definetly better then the 2 other Roman City builders that just came out, but still does not fully live up to my expectations.

Caesar 3 I remember playing for hours through the night building up my huge 2D city, never got boring.

The default settings are strange have played with them now camera view is great, same as children of nile (which is good by default). Have played a bit more & am now fairly happy, must admit to preferring the big sprawling scenarios rather than the 1's with the small cramped playing area, which are more like doing a jigsaw.

Glory of the Roman Empire is better graphics & has a bigger, more flexible playing area, feels more 3d than C4 at default camera.

Was Ryan drunk when wrote this article?

This craziness was almost certainly sparked by the Life of Brian question – 'What have the Romans ever done for us?' Caesar IV may actually provide a definitive answer.
Eh?

In recent months a new genre has emerged in PC gaming – Roman city-builders. These SimCity-esque games have been popping up all over the place: Glory of the Roman Empire and CivCity Rome both receiving luke-warm receptions recently from critics world wide.

Nothing has recaptured the character, the charm or the playability of Caesar III, released 8 years ago. The question is, will the new kid on the block have what it takes to live up to its fine heritage?
A new genre that is more than 8 years old?

My apologies - I described it as a new genre because in recent months a whole host of games have been released that are all very similar. Whereas before there was just Caesar III.

When there was only one game that was about ancient city building I don't think it warranted being called a genre, but now ancient city building games are definitely a genre.

It was a tad confusing though! Apologies.

Lol Just like buses, none 4 ages then they all come at once.

Have had a real good blast at this tonight & it's a slow burner, played the cordoba scenario & just finished city walls( not needed but nice 2 have ), but came within a whisker of being chased out of town, 4 not supplying weapons. Very good.
